Taipei, August 8, 2007 --- The DRAM spot market trading was sluggish during the end of July, where the DDR2 eTT 64Mx8 512Mb stabilized at the price range of US$1.94-2. However, trading gradually began trending upwards by early August. Spot prices slightly increased amid the growing momentum. Last week the DDR2 eTT chip jumped 7.58% to US$2.13, while the branded DDR2 512Mb 64M*8 leapt to US$2.23, up 4.69%.
According to DRAMeXchange's survey, the improved market conditions were attributed to: 1. a good demand-supply status between PC OEMs and DRAM makers. 2. The stronger market demand in NAND flash inhibited the DRAM production output, which stabilized the spot price. 3. Samsung’s power outage on August 3 hit six of its NAND Flash chip production lines, which subsequently brought forth relatively strong orders in the DRAM spot market.
In the contract market, prices sustained upward trend in 1HAug. The DDR2 667 512MB UDIMM grew by 5% from US$19.50 to US$20.50, as the cost price of each chip reached US$2.25/512Mb, quite close to the spot price of US$2.23. In the near term, the upcoming hot seasonal sales in the PC sector should help increase the 2GB content per box and drive up DRAM demand. DRAMeXchange foresees further price growth in 2HAug.
