QLogic First to Demonstrate 8Gb Fibre Channel HBAs With PCI Express 2.0 At Intel Developer Forum

QLogic SANblade 2500 Series Fibre Channel HBAs Utilize Next Generation Host Bus Interface for High Performance SAN Connectivity
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 18, 2007 -- Intel Developer Forum -- QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC), a leader in networking for storage and high performance computing, today announced it is the first company to demonstrate PCI Express 2.0 functionality with its 8Gb Fibre Channel HBAs running on the Intel "Stoakley" platform. The Stoakley platform features PCI Express 2.0, a new bus for workstations and servers with the bandwidth to support high speed I/O like 8Gb Fibre Channel. The powerful combination of SANblade 2500 Series Fibre Channel HBAs installed in workstations and servers equipped with PCI Express 2.0 slots will reduce backup time, accelerate disk-to-disk replication and speed-up the transfer of rich media such as video.

"System administrators supporting storage intensive applications are always looking for a higher bandwidth between their servers and the SAN," said Amit Vashi, vice president of marketing, QLogic Host Solutions Group. "Today's demonstration allows them to take a first look at the combined power of PCI Express 2.0 and 8Gb Fibre Channel."

"Intel and QLogic continue to collaborate on solutions for removing I/O bottlenecks from servers," said Jim Pappas, director of Initiative Marketing, Intel Corporation. "The demonstration of QLogic 8Gb Fibre Channel HBAs running on the Stoakley platform represents high performance SAN connectivity for next generation servers."

QLogic 8Gb Storage Networking Portfolio

The new family of end-to-end QLogic 8Gb Fibre Channel solutions consists of a broad range of single and dual port HBAs, blade server HBAs and switches, edge switches, and director switches. Designed to fulfill the ever-increasing need of enterprise-class business applications, and select vertical applications, for maximum performance, QLogic 8Gb Fibre Channel doubles the performance of today's 4Gb Fibre Channel products while maintaining full backward compatibility with the large installed base of 4Gb and 2Gb Fibre Channel solutions. All available from a single vendor, QLogic 8Gb Fibre Channel products are designed to allow OEMs, resellers and Global 2000 companies to work with high performance SAN solutions that give them a competitive edge.

Attendees of the Intel Developer Forum can witness the QLogic 8Gb Fibre Channel demonstration in the IHV conference area, booth 117.
