ESWC announces first pool of official games titles for 2008 competitions

Paris – October 1st, 2007

The Electronic Sports World Cup Committee today announced the first pool of games that will serve as official disciplines for the ESWC 2008 tournaments.

• Counter-Strike 1.6 (PC) (c) Valve Software
• Counter-Strike 1.6 (PC) reserved for women (c) Valve Software
• Warcraft III : The Frozen Throne (PC) (c) Blizzard
• Trackmania Nations ESWC (PC) (c) Nadeo

All tournaments are open to male and female persons except CS 1.6 Women. Before the end of the year, the ESWC Committee will announce a further list of titles that will take part in ESWC global competition.

The 6th season of ESWC starts today October the 1st in over 50 countries to end summer 2008 with a Grand Final event. ESWC registrations are locally driven, so international players should consult their own country’s respective ESWC website, all of which can be accessed via http://www.eswc.com/world.


FAQ

Why PES doesn’t appear in the first pool of selected games?

We want to select PES in the ESWC line-up of games as we did those past 4 years but 2 reasons delay the announcement: first we have to wait the official release of PES 2008 and secondly we are waiting for an international agreement with Konami that takes time to be concluded.

There is no pure FPS title in this first list, should we also wait for the second pool of games?

Yes there will be at least one pure FPS title announced before the end of the year. We have to wait and evaluate the mess of new games released the upcoming weeks. We want to take the time of a good choice and built its success with the communities of players.

Why did you choose Counter-Strike 1.6 and what are your relations with Valve software?

We think CS 1.6 is still the best version for competition to date. It is also the most played version. We have signed a licence agreement with Valve for CS 1.6 and we thank them for their support and their trust in our project.

When will be released the new information about the next Grand Final?
