Seventy Percent of Mobile Workers Prefer Smartphones to Laptops for Reliable Web Connectivity

Research cites unreliable Internet access and missed email messages as reasons they forego computers for mobile devices
Dallas, Texas-October 9, 2007-Mobile professionals often find themselves in locations where wireless Internet for laptops is not available. Seventy percent of respondents to a survey trust cellular devices over personal computers for reliable Web access to achieve maximum productivity.

A recent poll found that almost 90 percent of the almost 300 mobile professionals surveyed need to check email daily while away from the office, but more than 70 percent have missed key documents while on-the-go due to faulty or non-existent Internet access on their laptops. Not being able to receive vital documents while away from the office decreases efficiency, potentially lowering revenue for an organization.

Mobile productivity has become increasingly important and laptops are no longer the only way to stay connected to the office. Smartphones and mobile applications are rapidly become a business must-have, often offering the most efficient, reliable way to connect to the Internet while on-the-go. Compass Intelligence predicts that companies will spend roughly $9 billion on mobile applications by 2011, including productivity and email solution software.

"More employees are taking their jobs on the road and the ability to maintain efficiency at all times is becoming increasing vital to a company's bottom line," said Alan Masarek, CEO of Quickoffice. "Smartphones and mobile applications enable consistent productivity while also giving workers the freedom to work while on-the-go."
