ASUS Outlines Roll-out Plan for Windows-Based Eee PC
MEDIA ALERT - Fremont, CA ( January 16 , 2008 ) – ASUS North American headquarters today confirmed the plan to offer channel-wide availability of the Microsoft W indows™ XP-based Eee PC. The ASUS Eee PC defines a new category of computing device that offers an excellent Internet experience on-the-go for work, learn and play. With the additional offerings based on the popular operating system in both 4G and 8G models, consumers in North America will have a broader range of devices to choose from to suit their computing needs.

“The Eee PC has been a tremendous success since our initial launch in November last year, and our channel customers tell us they want to offer even more options to their end consumers. With the new Windows XP based offerings, we expect to engage with a broader customer base whose existing software and applications require a Windows’ based device, ” said Jackie Hsu, President of ASUS America Channel.

The Microsoft Windows XP-preinstalled Eee PC is expected to be available through ASUS North American authorized resellers by the end of Q1, 2008. The introductory models will be equipped with 4GB or 8GB of solid state drive (flash memory). Pricing information is not available at this time.

thats kinda funny to me that it will have XP not vista (just that it makes vista look really bad).

I read an article on the Eee the other day in the wall street journel. the biggest complaint the article had was the operating system had VERY limited functions in what you could do.

The hardware in the Eee doesn't meet Vista's minimum requirements, otherwise they would probably have used Vista.

I read some changes that Asus was planning to make to the eee PC, and I think Asus have missed the ball on why it was so popular to begin with.

They are going to beef up specs and things, but that will increase the price, the whole reason people loved it was because it was so cheap and portable. Cheap being the main motivation.
