Facebook Users Can Now Create Personalized Backgrounds with PageRage.com

4 million people have been quietly using PageRage.com to customize Facebook backgrounds
SAN DIEGO --(Business Wire)-- Jul 28, 2009 With Facebook’s colossal success, many users are looking to take their experience a step further by changing Facebook’s traditional layout to reflect their own personal style.

Yontoo Technology, Inc., a web application developer, focused on this concept by creating PageRage.com in September of 2008.

More than 4 million people have been quietly using PageRage over the past six months, which allows Facebook users to artistically alter their Facebook profile for a unique look similar to the customizations available for other social networking websites.

Today, PageRage has taken their patent-pending technology a step further by giving users the ability to create their own customized backgrounds in addition to choosing from PageRage’s directory of over 1,000 layouts.

Users simply go to http://www.pagerage.com to install the browser plug-in. Once installed, choose the "Create Your Own Background" link. Within the Background Creation section, you have the option to change your Facebook's background color, upload a picture, alter transparency and change your profile’s text color.

“I think the major strength with PageRage revolves around the freedom it gives users to enhance their Facebook experience,” said founder Arie Trouw. “While there are a few companies that have attempted to enable Facebook customization, no one has come close to providing the quality, layouts, and custom options that PageRage offers.”

Some speculate that PageRage will receive mixed reviews because Facebook users may have grown complacent with Facebook’s simple design. However, because PageRage requires a browser plug-in, both types of users are happy. “The beauty of our software centers on freedom,” said Trouw. “If people don’t want to see new layouts, they don’t have to. Anyone who doesn’t have our software installed will not see the customized layouts or be affected in any way.”

“We commend Facebook for creating a Web site that focuses on simplicity,” said Trouw. “Yet we believe that people want the ability to share more about themselves through stylized profile layouts. Through our new Background Creation tool, we’ve not only made this possible for our users, but we’ve also delivered a product aligned with Facebook’s mission of ‘Giving people the power to share.’ Now they can share in a whole new way.”

Facebook’s dominance in the social networking space is staggering with over 250 million active users. Many users looking to switch from MySpace to Facebook have been hesitant due to the inability to customize layouts (functionality which MySpace has always provided). With PageRage’s new layout creation application, transitioning MySpace users will now have the ability to experience the best of both worlds.
