Bill Gates and Amazing Kids! Collaborate to Deliver Insight to Teens and Kids via the Amazing Kids! Online Magazine

Interview Provides Sneak Peek of Amazing Kids!’ New “Sci-Tech Kids!” Feature Column
SEATTLE --(Business Wire)-- Jan 25, 2010 It’s not every day that a 15-year-old girl gets an exclusive interview with one of the world’s most amazing and inspirational leaders, Bill Gates. But that is just what Washington resident Olivia Pineda, age 15, did for her first assignment as an Amazing Kids! Reporter for the Amazing Kids! Online Magazine.

In the current January issue of the Online Magazine, 300,000+ kids and teens who read the publication will learn from Bill Gates’ amazing insight and advice on issues such as education, technology and his work with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

“The interview with Bill Gates has been a truly amazing experience for me as I gained a better understanding of Mr. Gates as a person. His insights are also a great way to help me think about discovering my own passions in life,” says Olivia Pineda.

The interview’s appearance is a “sneak peak” into the new “Sci-Tech Kids!” feature column which the magazine will debut in the March issue. The purpose of the column is to get more kids, especially girls, excited about science, engineering and technology and related career choices they will have in those fields.

Amazing Kids! Founder and President Alyse Rome comments: “We are proud of Olivia’s excellent work, and are honored and delighted that Mr. Gates so graciously agreed to participate in the Amazing Mentors! interview.” She adds: “One key aspect to our work is providing children and youth with access to insight from positive role models like Mr. Gates. In doing so, the kids will learn from and emulate them, and become inspired to work hard to not only achieve their dreams, but to give back to their communities.”

The Amazing Kids! Online Magazine is just one of several kids’ programs and services of Amazing Kids!®, (amazing-kids.org) a not-for-profit children’s educational resource and award-winning kids’ website founded in 1998, whose mission is to help kids realize their amazing potential and launch their dreams. Their online magazine, written and edited entirely by kids and teens, for kids and teens, launched in 2001 and is recognized as one of today’s quality “real world” online publishing experiences available to budding young writers, artists, photojournalists and magazine editors. It offers a variety of features including “Amazing Mentors! Spotlight,” interviews with successful adult professionals eager to pass along their knowledge and insight to the next generation of “amazing adults.” (For a list of past “Amazing Mentors,” send request to: [email protected])

Reflecting on Amazing Kids!’ recent move to the Greater Seattle area, Ms. Rome says: “The Gates interview is such a wonderful 'Welcome to Seattle' gift to Amazing Kids!, and a great way to help us introduce ourselves, our mission and our work to the local Seattle community. We are very excited about getting involved in the community here. As an all-volunteer organization, we invite community members to join us in our efforts, whether as collaborative partners, board members, advisors, or volunteers, so we can help even more kids like Olivia prepare for their amazing future and one day, launch their dreams.”
