PROTONEX PORTABLE POWER FUEL CELL SYSTEM POWERS MILITARY EQUIPMENT WITH AIR FORCE RESEARCH LABORATORY
SOUTHBOROUGH, MA; October 3, 2005…Protonex Technology Corporation, a leading manufacturer of high-performance fuel cell power systems for portable and remote applications, successfully demonstrated its portable power fuel cell system at Team Patriot, an exercise hosted by the U.S. Air Force at Volk Field Air Base in Wisconsin to demonstrate advanced military technologies. The fuel cell power system was integrated with battery and power management components to operate military radios, laptop computers and other specialty military electronics.

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) invited Protonex to Team Patriot to demonstrate the portable power fuel cell product platform currently being developed under a two-year Dual Use Science and Technology (DUST) program awarded by the AFRL last April. The Protonex power system integrates Millennium Cell’s Hydrogen on Demand® technology for the safe storage and generation of hydrogen. During the field demonstration, Protonex and Millennium Cell gained valuable customer-use data that will be incorporated in next-generation products.

“The Air Force is interested in advancing man-portable power solutions to provide more capability to our personnel. Fuel cell systems, integrated with current battery technology, can provide this capability,” stated Captain William E. Notbohm, U.S. Air Force. “Protonex was able to demonstrate this capability in the field demonstration.”

“This demonstration is an important step toward reaching our goal of providing a complete portable power solution,” said Dr. Paul Osenar, Chief Technology Officer, Protonex Technology Corporation. “It validates that our system has a technology readiness level (TRL) for reliable field operation and integration with current military equipment.”
