NEW NVIDIA® GEFORCE™ 6800 GS GPU AVAILABLE FOR HOLIDAY SEASON

NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GS GPU Raises Performance Bar in the Midrange Segment to Meet the Demands of the Graphics-Intensive Holiday Titles
SANTA CLARA, CA—November 7, 2005—NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), the worldwide leader in programmable graphics processor technologies, today announced the immediate availability of the new NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GS graphics processing unit (GPU), the latest addition to the Company’s award-winning line-up of GPUs. Just in time to power the holiday’s hottest gaming titles, the new GeForce 6800 GS has astonishing horsepower and dramatically shifts performance expectations for graphics cards at midrange price points.

“If you look at the roster of the games anticipated to be hot for the holiday season—including Age of Empires 3™, Call of Duty™ 2, Quake™4, or Serious Sam™ 2—the common thread is that they all support the latest 3D features and require a lot of graphics performance to deliver an enjoyable gaming experience,” stated Ujesh Desai, general manager of desktop GPUs at NVIDIA. “Graphics cards based on GeForce 6800 GS GPUs deliver the 3D eye-candy with the necessary performance for total gaming immersion, but do so at a new, lower price point.”

Based on the award-winning GeForce 6 architecture, the GeForce 6800 GS GPU features advanced gaming technologies—including Shader Model 3.0, high-dynamic range (HDR) lighting, and NVIDIA Scalable Link Interface (SLI™) multi-GPU technology. The GeForce 6800 GS GPU also has a 256-bit memory interface and a dedicated video processing engine that delivers virtually unmatched high-definition video playback.

NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GS-based graphics cards are available for immediate purchase at approximately $249 USD from many of the world’s leading add-in card makers, including: Albatron, Chaintech Computer Co. Ltd., eVGA.com Corporation, Galaxy, Innovision, Leadtek Research Inc., MSI Computer Corporation, Palit Microsystems, Inc., PNY Technologies, Inc., Point of View, Prolink, Sparkle Computer Co. Ltd., and XFX. GeForce 6800 GS-based add-in cards are available from major online retailers worldwide and are also powering PCs from the world’s leading system builders.

WOO HOOOOO!!!!! This launch really excites me! How awesome is it to get 6800GT performance at $200?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!! :partyman:
Give it through the end of 2005 and I bet prices will stabilize at or below $200

Doesn't this actually have a 7800 core too?

so it's right between the vanilla and GT. and I guess since it's PCI-E, you can't open the other pipes. so is the core NV40 or G70?

Edit: I found it. it's NV42 with 12 pipes (no opening trick :( )

wow! they were able to OC the mem to 1.23Ghz! I wonder if it has a 2ns GDDR3 memory memory like my card or something faster like 1.6ns? if it's 2ns then I could raise mine to that much with better cooling :P

$199 shipped at ClubIT :)

Pretty good card for the price...I wonder how it performs in comparison to an unlocked x800GTO.
