On the road to the Electronic Sports World Cup 2012
Paris, July 16, 2012: The 9th edition of the ESWC - the Electronic Sports World Cup – will be taking place from July to October 2012 with the international qualifying phase, and from November 1st to 4th for the international Grand Final, organized for the second successive year during Paris Games Week, in Hall 1 at Porte de Versailles in Paris, France.

The ESWC was created in France in 2003. From its first editions at Futuroscope, the World Cup has federated video game tournaments on the 5 continents. In 2005 at the Louvre of Paris, then at Paris Bercy in 2006, the event has become a reference for the organization of video game competitions and live match showcases. In 2008, the Grand Final was organized in San José, California. In 2011, the ESWC won over the audience at Paris Games Week with 5 days of shows staged in front of more than 150,000 visitors and an Internet audience of 2 million. In 2012, the ESWC takes up the challenge again at Paris Games Week, satisfying both purists of electronic sports and video game fans, in a festive and sportsmanlike atmosphere.

Games titles have already been selected as official disciplines for the ESWC 2012:

Starcraft 2 © Activision Blizzard, 1v1 on PC, real time strategy (RTS)
Dota2 © Valve Software, 5v5 on PC, multiplayer battle arena (MOBA)
ShootMania Storm © Nadeo Ubisoft, 3v3 on PC, multiplayer action game (FPS)
TrackMania Nations © Nadeo Ubisoft, 1v3 on PC, racing game simulation
FIFA 13 © EA Sports, 1v1 on console, soccer simulation

Beside the official competitions, the ESWC will feature additional tournaments during the Paris Games Week:

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive © Valve Software, for international teams
Trackmania Canyon © Nadeo Ubisoft, for international players
League of Legends © Riot Games, for local teams
Tekken™ Tag Tournament 2 © NAMCO BANDAI Games, for local teams in 2v2

Additional games, tournaments or show matches may be announced in the coming weeks. The organization of the preliminary trials will be announced separately by territory. For France, there will be qualifying tournaments in September and October, and during the 2 first days of Paris Games Week (October 31st and November 1st).

Plantronics will return this year as the official ESWC headset and will support the ESWC 2012 as a Global Major Sponsor, showcasing GameCom headsets dedicated to gamers. Plantronics will hold qualifying trials in several regions in 2012. The ESWC North America final will be in Seattle, WA (USA) during the Penny Arcade Expo (PAXPrime) August 31 through September 2, 2012.
