(Bilbao, SPAIN) – May 18, 2006 – With KODE5 events being launched in nine countries and territories to date, word of the revolution is spreading across the global gaming community like wildfire. Today, in cooperation with Euskal, KODE5 is proud to add KODE5 Spain to the growing list KODE5 qualifiers. Taking place at Euskal Encounter 14, KODE5 Spain will welcome over 5,500 participants to a venue the size of 5 football fields. The KODE5 Global Gaming Revolution is supported globally by Foxconn and Corsair Memory, and takes competitive gaming to an international stage with events being held in 20+ countries worldwide.

Euskal Encounter is one of the most well respected LAN events in the world. Originating as a demo party for programmers to share and display their talents, including digital music, digital art, and coding. Eventually, the event began to also include a LAN gaming event to the program, and as time passed and gamers grew in numbers, the gaming section became a bigger and bigger component to the event.

The scale of the event is astonishing. Euskal Encounter boasts over 5,500+ attendees and over 3,500+ computers, making it one of the world’s largest LAN events. Over 100km of Ethernet cabling, 50km of electrical cabling, and 10km of optic fibre cabling is required to power 96 hours of continuous gaming action. Euskal Encounter is covered regularly by radio, television, and national newspapers, making it an ideal venue to spread the excitement of competitive gaming.

The gaming event will be split into two divisions – one amateur division and one professional division through Euskal’s professional gaming league Gamegune (http://www.gamegune.org/eng/). The two top teams and players from both divisions will do one final battle to determine who will represent Spain at the KODE5 Global Finals. By integrating both professional and amateur divisions, KODE5 and Euskal hope to attract a wider audience and foster the competitive spirit of gamers of all skill levels.
