New Choices Optimized for Cable Operator ROI
KIRKLAND, Wash. — May 7, 2007 — Digeo, Inc. today introduced two new Moxi products specifically designed to help cable operators meet their flexibility, cost-sensitivity and CableCARD requirements: the next-generation Moxi HD Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and Moxi for OpenCable Application Platform (OCAPTM) environments. Both products are important elements in Digeo's strategy to deliver the award-winning Moxi user experience to more consumers, while offering cable operators a Moxi-based solution that maximizes service revenue and provides a superior return on investment.
"These new Moxi choices deliver a best in class HD experience at a very competitive price while helping cable operators meet FCC requirements for separable security with CableCARD," said Mike Fidler, CEO of Digeo. "Our Emmy® Award-winning interface has already proven what it can do to increase average revenue per user. In one deployment, Moxi was shown to triple video-on-demand usage, proving that having a dynamic, well-designed and easy-to-use interface can make a tremendous difference."
The Moxi HD Digital Video Recorder (DVR) is Digeo's next-generation cable DVR solution, following the successful Moxi Media Center introduced in late 2004. The Moxi HD DVR is a newly designed digital set top box that combines optimized hardware with the latest version of the industry-acclaimed Moxi software, to offer cable service providers nearly twice the storage of the previous Moxi Media Center at more than a third less cost. The new Moxi HD DVR capabilities include:
* The Moxi Menu, featuring the fast and highly-graphical Moxi programming guide-- which integrates VOD and PPV content in search results and predefined content filter cards--and popular media center features such as Ticker, Photos and Games;
* Moxi 4.1 software improvements including faster rendering time, time forward feature and hard drive storage meter;
* Remote web-based scheduling;
* Built-in support for Multi-stream CableCARD (M-Card) with two-way capability;
* The ability to record two simultaneous HD video streams: up to 16 hours of HD MPEG2 video, and up to 160 hours of standard-definition video on the 160GB hard drive;
* External hard drive support, allowing provisioned subscribers to increase their storage to 1 terabyte;
* Digeo Customer Connection portal access, providing diagnostic tools for Customer Service Representatives and insights into subscriber needs; and
* Interoperability with both Motorola and Scientific-Atlanta-based cable plants.
"Our customers have reacted favorably to the Moxi interface in markets where it's available," said Marwan Fawaz, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Office of Charter Communications, Inc. "As we continuously enhance our advanced services and content offerings, we believe the Moxi interface can help improve the overall customer experience."
OCAP Solutions Add More Platform Choices
Moxi for OCAP is a software-based version of the Moxi user interface optimized to run on lower-end set-top boxes and other hardware using the cable-industry standard OCAP middleware platform. Compatible with multiple hardware platforms, Moxi for OCAP provides cable operators increased flexibility in bringing the Moxi user experience to their customers as they strive to effectively compete with IPTV and satellite service providers to acquire and retain customers. The HD-capable Moxi for OCAP software integrates advanced services such as interactive content applications, video-on-demand and pay-per-view and can be easily deployed through normal in-line software updates, reducing the need for customer support and on-site visits by technicians. Three versions of Moxi for OCAP solutions will be available: Moxi EPG only; Moxi EPG with DVR support; and the complete Moxi experience including DVR, media center applications and services.
"Moxi for OCAP continues Digeo's long track record of innovation, this will make their intuitive user interface navigation tool as well as their next generation interactive services available on a variety of OCAP platforms we are currently deploying," said Patrick Knorr, General Manager, Sunflower Broadband. "Easy navigation of content becomes more important every day and we are excited about the prospect of extending the Moxi experience to a wider base of Sunflower customers. This is a great step in the right direction."
Digeo expects the Moxi HD DVR to be available in the fourth quarter of 2007. The first version of Moxi for OCAP (EPG only) will be available in the fourth quarter of 2007 with the DVR and complete Moxi experience versions following in waves in early 2008.
