To 5Mb+ or not 5Mb+, that's the question ...

Post by stev »

OK, here's the deal...

Some time after January, I had upgraded the graphics card in the computer. Since that time my WU point went from 500max down to 383max per WU. :( I would receive the same WU sizes of 4,000 or 1,500.

That had sure puzzled me. :-k

Earlier this week I had turned off the greater than 5Mb work assignments. The last large WU finished and the smaller ones started to flow in. It was stunning to see the little points of 15 to 30 per WU assignment for 2 hours of work.

Then I calculated how long it took to reach 500 points the old way of large 5Mb sizes down to 343 points in 72 hours vs taking a mere 15 point WUs X 72 hours getting more points of 1080 !!!

That in itself was a a surprise to see. :) Before it was better to fold with the larger than 5Mb, not it's best not to. How strange. :-k

One last note, the PPD went from >5Mb 110PPD to >5Mb 125PPD. :P

I think the problem with the <5mb WU's is you can get some WU's that may take a lot longer of a time for very little points.
