best configuration?
best configuration?
Just a quick question. I currently have a q6600 with a 9800gtx XXX on a 780i board. Also a E8400 on a basic ecs board with my 9600 gt XXX. My question is should I swap cpu's for better folding. The 9800 system is also for gaming and some other stuff. I was thinking that I will set the quad up with smp and the 9600 with gpu primarily (unless a friend wants to lan.) While the system on the 780I board will be used for gaming and folding. I've had both systems down due to the heat here in Chicago but the will be back up soon.

Re: best configuration?
However you setup your system you can always pause your folding when you game. As you already know that the GPU2 client needs one core for it to work best.
I have my quad core folding one SMP client and one GPU2 client. Three cores for SMP and one core for GPU2. Sorry if I don't understand your question. I understand your heat issue, I am dealing with that as well. Fold on!

Re: best configuration?
yes i would move the e8400 to the 780i board, you get slightly better gaming and the quad and 9600gt can fold away

Re: best configuration?
i went ahead and swapped the cpu's out. With the q6600 my ppd seems to have dropped about 1000 on the 9600 vs the ppd on the e8400. How do you set the smp to fold on 3 cores instead of 4? I think I answered my own question about swapping. the 9600 will pretty much stay on folding 24/7 where the 9800 will have gaming thrown in among some other apps. currently stressing the e8400 at 3.6 will be interested to see how what kind of ppd i get with that combo.
*nevermind about the 1000ppd loss it started climbing after shutting down the smp client. Smp was trying to use all 4 cores*

Re: best configuration?
If you still want to know how to assign cores I use this program http://distributed.org.ua/forum/index.p ... topic=1149 I also go into windows task manager and right click on each FahCore and highlight set infinity and uncheck one core then hit ok. I have core 3 set for the GPU2 client and cores 0,1,2 set for SMP client. When SMP client finishes and starts a new WU. I have to reset each FahCore because SMP will try to assign all four cores again. I hope that helps with your question.
Any questions, just ask.

Re: best configuration?
I would have suggested just what you did. I have essentially done the same thing with my rigs. Best mobo, running the E8400, 4gb ram, 8800gtx for gaming/folding. Q6600/8800GTX for every day use/folding. I wish I could get the BIOS flashed on my board so I could get my Q6600/8800GTX daily driver maxxed out. I'm only getting around 4500ppd out of that rig right now, when I should be getting 5500 from the 88gtx and another 15-1800 ppd from SMP. Sadly, the Q is running as a single core right now and I can't get the BIOS to flash. Thinking I'm going to have to RMA this motherboard as well.

Re: best configuration?
I managed to find the older version of this, and I could change the affinity. However, the latest version that vibron linked doesn't change the affinity for me. Does anyone know of an affinity changer that I can use?
I'm using a CPU + GPU client. The older version couldn't be installed as a service, hence why I'm looking for another one.
