Allow receipt of work assigments ... > 5Mb

Post by stev »

Since I've just started F@H, I have found this option under "Connection."

It was not check in the box prior when F@H was installed. So, out of being curious on the last WU completed, I checked the box to see what would happen.

Well, the good news is, the new WU is 250 frames vs. the 1500 frames. =D> However, it seems that it takes a little longer to chomp the frames in the 250. #-o The best news is, it's almost double the points. :) Then after 1-hour the number of days to crunch went from 389 days down to 3 days. =D> So, with almost an extra half day more to crunch a WU, I'm getting almost 200 more points per WU. I'm very happy now. :P

I wonder if this option is used for turning on for high speed internet vs. the 5Mb limit for dial-up folding users? Any comments?

I guess it is for the dial up folders.

But when I was folding, i also found that checking this gave you more ppd as the WU's were bigger.

I would agree that the WU's are a little larger with the >5Mb turned on and the points are greater valued. However, the added 1/2 day of number crunching isn't bad at all.

It's nice to know that a person or team can aquire better point processing with a high-speed internet connection and this option turned on. :)

Well, I'm chomping at the bit. LOL

Ranking for the team is now 84. :) I've past the 100 ranked person, like that means anything anyways with so many people on the list not folding for a long time. :|

Turning on the >5Mb has really helped getting this point spread under control. :P I'm hoping to have this three core combination working at the end of the week.

sounds great stev, glad to have someone knew. yeah its disheartening to have only 20+% of the team folding, but that's the breaks. Not many people fold for more than a couple months let alone 5 years like myself

Other than the > 5Mb option, I've tried to tweak/optimize F@H for better throughput.

Under the Advanced option, I've uncheck Logos enabled.

Under Core Priority, I've selected the Lowest Possible setting.

There is some talk in the F@H circles about, "For those lucky users with dual-processor machines or rigs with hyperthreaded P4s, you can run two instances of the Console version simultaneously. It's rather involved, but well worth it to see both of your CPUs (or both of your virtual CPUs) being utilized to their fullest. These instructions assume you are running Win2K Pro or XP Pro."

I have one of the very first P4's with hyperthreading. It's the Northwood P4 3.0Ghz in the sig. It's possbile to run two F@H sessions without tasking this CPU to death?

sorry stev I meant to respond to this this week, but I totally forgot. What are you using, graphical or text? If your using graphical I would say use text.

Okay for the HT Question, remember that FAH will scale back when you need the processor. So its not gonna tax anything.

go here and download this. Its completely optimized for HT processors

http://www.justa-larrkin.com/folding/OC ... al-ADV.zip
Dually/HT with -advmethods
This one-click installer is the simplest way to install FAH on a Windows 2000 or XP Machine that has either two processors or a single P4 Processor with Hyperthread enabled. Includes -advmethods flag.

Installation Instructions:

1. Download the file listed above
2. Edit both client.cfg files with NOTEPAD to your username and bigpackets answer ("yes" or "no" - default is "no").
3. Run the *.exe file.
4. The One-click will then create a directory (C:\Program Files\FAH), download the FAH console client, creates and installs FAH as a service in the registry, starts the FAH Service, and cleans up the extra download files after the install is completed.
Stev you want to answer yes for #2.
