Just thought about something

Post by bubba »

... I didn't have the test bench folding. So I set down and cranked it up and started it folding.

More folding is better :)

I am folding on a quad and I really dont see as much improvement over the c2d that I though I would :(

Is that running SSE or SSE2, cus it's folding awfully fast. You fold 15 000 steps in around 10 min. On my rig, it takes 10 min to fold 5000 steps, and this is with SSE2. But then, you have a Core 2 that's 600mhz faster than my X2.

Off topic, but is the FahMon better than the F@H clients from the Stanford site?? If so, where can I get it and how do I install it??

Just two console clients I just downloaded and set to separate cores. The FaHMON http://fahmon.net/ is just a monitoring tool to watch the console clients and see what your logs look like with out looking at the DOS window.

As for if its SSE or SSE2?? I'll look in the morning when I get back to the office. Where do you look to see? I do remember looking at it before I left and saw something like Gromacs2 something like that.

Fahmon is a great little program. The last release has some better improvements, however, there are still a few things that are still somewhat quirky. Overall, I can't complain about the program it's been a great help! http://www.fahmon.net

Not always. On the 3 core 2 machines that I have folding (E2140, E6700, QX770) I'm running single core clients and turning in big points daily. The E2140 would turn an SMP unit in every 27 hours (~1500ppd) whereas with two single core clients (as long as it keeps getting the current double gromacs units) it's turning in 1860 daily.

However I think the E6700 would probably be best served running the SMP since it's only slightly faster on the double gromacs but can still finish an SMP in less than 24 hours and I don't have to worry about it getting a crappy 182 point wu that's going to take 24 hours.

The quad..it's a toss up. 4x930 ppd or SMP for ~3300ppd. Again, if you don't get the double gromacs, SMP is a no brainer. The system has issues coming back from standby at times and the SMP work units tend to flake out along with that.
