new server I'm building, enough power for SMP?
I'm building a file server, using a Tyan K8SD Pro (S2882-D) with two Opteron 242's (Sledgehammer core). I want to run folding on it (should give me more points than just the XP 1600+ I'm running now ), but I don't know if it'll be able to finish SMP wu's before their deadline.
Ideas?
Ideas?

Re: new server I'm building, enough power for SMP?
I knew someone would say that!
Can't do that yet though, need to fully figure out my new gaming comp (see my thread in AMD Motherboards), then I can have my old 200GB ide drive for this thing.

hmm I assumed that you would be running 4 total cores, but these are single core chips and DDR. So essentially your just running a dual core. You may make the deadlines, but just barely.

Thanks, that's kinda what I was thinking. I'll keep my eye on the thread you started over at the official forums, too.
The only sure way to know is to install windows and find out, but I can't do that right now, so...

whatever you add to the team is great. Even having a dual core running you'll be averaging at least 500ppd

Yeah, it'll be good to add more points once I get some of these things going over here (for a slight taste of what's to come from me, I've got more server boards on the way... )
Anyway, I guess no one over at the official forums cares enough about it to respond again, so I'll just have to wait until I install it too find out! If it won't work, I'll just do two regular clients like we used to have to.

Simple way to test, run 1 frame of the SMP client. Frame time must be 28.8 minutes or lower to make the deadline, if the server is running 24/7. Glad to here you have more on the way, we gotta get this team pumping again

I'll try that and see what happens when I get windows installed on it, thanks.
