Affinty Setter for SMP

I was a bit skeptical, but I ran it overnight and it actually did something. It takes a good 5-10 frames before it takes hold. Went from 1160ppd to 1260ppd on a SMP 2653. Knocked off about a minute per frame off. Works better than manually assigned Affinity in Task Manager or Process Explorer. Well worth the download.

Works best for CPUs with a unified cache (ie Intel C2Ds), and seems to work better with duals than quads, but helps nevertheless. Most reports on AMD says this doesn't work and usually made times worse.

Bump again :)

I added the MSI file - if you want the setup.exe let me know since the link no longer seems to be valid :(

Mike

Well it seems I cant find ANY format i can upload it in :p not even jpg since it is over 256kb so here is a divshare link - the zip includes both the exe and msi files - both are the same I believe, just that some people cant run msi files.

http://www.divshare.com/download/3225349-873 deleted due to old version.

Any more word on whether this works ok for AMD's? Or is it still not ok.

Didn't have much luck with it on the E6700, I'll give it another shot now that I formatted. Had really great luck with it running two SMP's on the quad core though, dropped almost 2 minutes on each.

the way around that is to run one in Windows and one in Vmware.

So, is this worth using with an overclocked E6600 that is already running at 13:15 per frame? Is the link broken, or am I missing the point of the link?

By setting the affinity manually I get a nice drop in time, a little over a minute or more per percent. I tried this before a couple of times on a dual core and it didn't do anything so I may have not gotten it working correctly. There is a difference by setting the affinity though.

I used it on my quad core while running two clients and it made a big difference, too bad running two client's is not worth the hassle. Shutting one client down causes the other client to crash and corrupt its work unit. There are ways around it but on a system that you use daily and occasionally game with, no good.

I did not feel like making a new post, just a note; make sure everyone is running the lastest version of smp client. I just updated mine. Fold on! :)

For those that haven't been able to get the program.
http://code.google.com/p/fah-smp-affinity-changer/ :)

I'm running this on all three SMP rigs and notice a difference on each....the largest difference is on the Quad core running two clients, though the E8400 seems to benefit quite a bit also.

this worked well on my E6400 machine, but actually slowed my E6600 machine... so I uninstalled it. I'll probably give it another shot later (next time I reinstall the F@H client or reformat the computer).

Sorry to bring up such an old thread, but has anyone noticed a PPD increase using this on their dual core machines? I know this program lets quad cores run 2 SMP clients, but does it benefit dual core users with 1 SMP + GPU client?
