It's Alive. IT'S ALIVE!!

In true fashion of Frankenstein, the Frankenbeast has once again risen from a pile of assorted parts into a file storage/folding machine. I finally got time over the Thanksgiving evening to tear the old 'beast apart and summon the new 'beast. Specs as follows:

Antec Sonata III Case (bought from a seller here on LR)
PCP&Cooling 750 Quad Silencer - Red/ATI crossfire certified. July Forum win, FINALLY put to use.
Asus P5L-MX mATX mobo
Intel C2D E6400, currently OC'd to 2.4 (300fsb x 8 mp) up from 2.13.
ThermalTake Big Typhoon VX CPU cooler
1GB PC2-5300 Corsair Value Ram
250GB Seagate 8mb SATA HDD

The full intent of this machine was to build a file storage PC on the cheap. Including the new case (which was a killer deal), I have less than $300 in the entire system. If I could build the same machine for the same money, I would do it in a heartbeat to up the folding farm. Since it's a file server, I'm just using onboard video and sound. I might watch around for a super deal on a video card and go ahead and upgrade that to use as a backup gamer for when I have company over. Aside from that, I'll probably add 2x 500/750GB hard drives come tax time. The Sonata is SUPER quiet (as advertised), even with the PCP&Cooling PSU in it, and it has enough space for 3 more hard drives with no modification needed... aside from probably upping the cooling a bit. Right now, it's running at 34-36 deg C folding at 100%.

Hopefully, I can bust the 400K barrier in the next few days, 400 WU's in the next few weeks and in the process pick off a few of the quitters towards the top of the list... all the while holding off DarkHawk, victor/natasha and wickedld9.

Anyway, enough rambling... I'll try to get some pictures up in the next few days.

That's outstanding! :)

I've been folding now a few months now for LR. It's taken a little time to get up into the 70 rankings for the team, but not really that hard since the bottom end is mostly the quitter rankings like you had stated.

There are a few new users working up the ranks from down there. That's a good sign. Just this past week, LR was blown away by a PS3 team. Another PS3 team is scaling the charts fast too.

It's good to see the Frankenbeast in the fold of machines. :P 400 WU's is amazing! This nearly grabs me to invest into a newer system. :-k

I look forward to seeing your pictures soon. :)

Don't worry, I'm just waiting for the new mobile cpu to come out. Then when intel quits its fbs. It's time for a new build. I'm just waiting. victor/natasha. I'm glad we are all on the same team. Fold on :)

Congrats man, It's always fun to get another computer up and running from spare parts. I enjoy doing it lots. I wish I could have all my amd 64's folding all the time. I never did get all of them doing it, but while I live at home, my parents won't let me leave them running 24/7. That one you made though is probably better than ll 4 of my amd 64's.

alright... got the new ram in the 'beast. Running the 30 minute OCCT for now on the 2gb DDR2 800 (same as in Behemoth) and a notch up on the overclock to 2.56Ghz. If it passes the 30 minute OCCT, I'll let it fold like that for today, try to tweak a bit more overclock out of it and run the 24 hour stresses over next weekend.
