production is going to be permanatly lowered

Post by martini161 »

just thought i should let you know, i was feeling rash one day, so i decided to see if i could get around my quads fsb wall (which i cant on this board), and in doing so i tried some extreme voltages. i am now feeling the consequences though, because my quad can no longer do anything other than stock stable. so my production will be quite a bit lower until i can scrape up the cash to get a 45nm chip and a new mobo. consider this a lucky break for those of you i had in my crosshairs

Yeah, that is a bit crazy high >_<

I think the most I put through my E6600 was 1.6v when i was trying for suicide, and I couldn't get it stable as high clocks as I wanted so I took it down.

Don't tweak on no sleep!

That's a cool tagline. :P

1.6V isn't that high, but it really depends on your cooling... how was it cooled?

When I overclocked my rig I did not see a big difference betweeen stock and overclock. Did you see a difference? and by how much? A couple of seconds. The most important thing is you still have a working computer!

I just went off roading in my truck. I thought for sure I was going to either get stuck or get a flat tire. I did neither. Why, because I did not push my luck. Sometimes you just have to say to yourself I got lucky. :)

Depending on the chip of course, but there's a huge difference when overclocking...not by seconds but minutes. On my E66 from 3.2 - 3.5 there isn't a huge difference, maybe 20 seconds, but from stock to 3.2 is a couple minutes per %.

On my E84 I haven't seen what kind of times it did on folding at stock, but @ 4ghz it's just under 9 min a %.
Intel i7 2600k @ 4.8ghz
Asus P8P67 PRO
ATI 5870
8 GB G-Skill Ripjaw X 1600 @ 7-8-7-24
120gb G-Skill Sniper SSD

That is a difference but each WU is alittle different. Losing a couple of min. per % is a whole lot better than losing your computer. Fold on

i used to get like 3k aday outa this quad and now its more like 2 or 2 and a half.
@apop: it was under a dumpy water cooling system (some 80 dollar pos till i can afford a swiftech rad and block) thats cooling past its capacity 8) and to be honest it was more like 1.65 or so

thought i might update this:
figured out why i couldnt keep the oc stable any more. it turns out my little sparking incident (read here http://forums.legitreviews.com/about12903.html) fried one of the pwm chips so it was vdroping like crazy. god i need a new board. maybe ill get lucky and win one of those there giving away at that ninja lane place. if they even get enough entries that is  seems like more than half the posts are in some anime picture thread thats NSFW

So you didn't quite get lucky then :P

I take it you aren't going to risk trying to replace the PWM (via soldering) to try and get your mobo stable again.
