Nvidia Folding in a week

Post by dicecca112 »

GPU1 has been retired, GPU2 for NVIDIA release nearing

Just a reminder: we've retired GPU1 today. As of 9:30am pacific time, new assigns for the GPU1 client will go to 0.0.0.0. We will keep the data server up for a few more days to collect old WU's, but we will repurpose that server in about a week (the deadline time on the GPU1 WU's was 6 days).

I'd like to personally thank all the GPU1 folders, whose work has lead to the GPU2 clients, for both ATI and NVIDIA. Just as we turn the page on GPU1, we are nearing our open beta release for the GPU2/NVIDIA client. If all goes well, we hope to have that available in a week. I'll give an update if it looks like it will be delayed more than a week.

It'll be interesting to see how this client fairs, especially since this will most likely increase everyone's energy bill...., atleast those with faster GPUs.

Right now you have to be running NVIDIA driver 177.34 and it only works in Vista. Windows XP will run it, but you will have no viewer. The pre-release also does not yet take advantage of multiple GPUs in a system. It will work the same whether SLI is enabled or not.

Not gonna happen buddy. There is something called an NDA, and Nate would like to keep reviewing Nvidia cards. We don't have the clout like other sites to blindly ignore NDAs

When you say "no viewer"... you mean as in no graphical as you posted like the current SMP dos window... or NOTHING?

That's what I'm trying to figure out. Should I buy the card or not?

I was running it last night with the following setup

XP SP3
8800GTS 640MB
I was able to use the "viewer" and I didn't have to install "CUDA" or do anything extra than just run the installer.

Thank you :) A bit of bad news, Temps in my neck of the woods are over 100F. I'm going to stop folding for awhile til things cool down. Going to wait to get a new graphics card. Would like to see how AMD cards are before I jump in.

That's good news. I'm going to finally be getting my new graphics card--a 9600 GT, just can't ever seem to scrape up that extra $50-60 for the 8800--Hopefully it'll work with that. :prayer:
