Why should you start folding?

The technical side of this project is fascinating and exciting to be be a part of, no doubt about it. It's also a pretty cool competition. But here's the REAL reason you should get on board...

Dementia is just one of the insidious, despicable diseases the Folding@Home project is trying to fight. Every clock cycle helps to take one more step towards eradicating these terrible diseases. Sure the competition is great; the technology astounding but Al was just one of tens of millions of people who have died or will die with few if any memories left of their lives or of their families who love them dearly and take care of them as long as they are able before the inevitable rolls around.

Donating a few clock cycles doesn't cost anything. It doesn't slow your PC down or really affect your utility bill unless you are truly counting pennies. It doesn't matter if you complete 20 Work Units an hour or 1 a month. Every completed unit helps. It's hard to find someone who has somehow NOT been affected by at least one of the Dementias. Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer's are just two of the many variations. They break up families and steal lifetimes. It's time to get rid of them.'

Thanks,
Jack

I second with ya on the reasons to start..My Great-Grandmother had Alzheimer's...it was a total bummer to see her not even remember me or even her own Daughter who saw her every day..Now my mother has Systemic Lupus,Osteoporosis, and a few other things all at the same time..and my Best friend's mother has MS...they're both not even 60..hell my friends mom isnt even 50 i dont think...(She looks rather young so Im probably off on her age)..I even remember an old Boss of mine who's mother had a form of dementia and it turned his life upside down..(in terms of relationships, stress and even his work..everything not to mention her life as well) Folding can help understand pretty much any disease which doesn't show any descrimination as to who it goes for or what it will appear like..If ya don't do it for Jerry Lewis, do it for ur loved ones..or yourself even

You hit the nail on the head my friend, it's not about the glory of the competition, it's about the results, which will be truly amazing.
