What he probably mean is that a clean installation is not clearly explained. Actually, it's very simple :

-Make a new FAH directory on C: or any other drive.
-Unzip the package in the new folder you just created.
-Open the command prompt window (you can type cmd.exe in the search box). Under Vista, you need to either disable UAC or run as Administrator to make it work.
-Move to the folder with CD.
-First run install.bat to instal MPICH.
-Type "[email protected] -configonly" (personnally, I like to first rename the exe to fah6.exe to make less typing) then configure it to your needs.
-Start the client with "[email protected] -smp". The -smp flag is necessary unless you already added it in the advanced flags during configuration.

A full installer just merely create a new folder, add the executable and add a uninstaller.

For the upgrade :

-Stop the current client by pressing CTRL+C.
-Open your current folder (that you used to run 5.91/5.92 smp client).
-Either rename or delete the old Fah executable.
-Unzip/copy the new 6.22beta2 executable in the same folder.
-run the new executable with the -configonly flag then check the config (there are some new fields to add).
-Restart the client as usual.

A test folder is just the folder where you run the smp. Since each user name the folder differently, that explain why Peter told that. I guess that if you need the full instructions, please refer to the 5.91/5.92 instructions available in the wiki or in the forum.

I did not write the post. We got the post from this site http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f ... b05c009242 all the credit has to go to Xilikon. It took us a long time to get this right. I wanted to save our folding team the time. Fold on!

yup don't use the Deino, I've not been able to get it running, just go it running on my Work Laptop again.

Little bit of trouble here. I run the F@H .exe after running the install.bat. In the command prompt I type "[email protected] -smp" (Thats how I renamed the client's exe) and it asks me for a password? Thinking I just need to create one, I type one in, confirm it, and I get nothing. I'm so lost here.

Don't really need a password. Leave it blank.

I'm running two GUI clients and manually setting the Affinity for each of the cores.

I got this to work on my E8400 but couldn't get it on an AMD 9600

It seems I've been away from this for too long. I can't seem to get the configonly flag to work. Perhaps someone would be around this evening on AIM to beat me over the head for a while to get it working? Let me know. thanks.

doood thats great! i finally got SMP to work in win7 thanks to that, you dont need any flags either, so simple, just run it, fill out the info and its good to go

It seems I do not know what my password is here. I tried the install.bat part and I entered my 32 digit passkey I got from F@H site and that does not work. I then figured out they must be asking for my admin password that would have been entered , if I picked one, during the OS installation. If that is what they want here I gues I am out of luck since I have no clue what it may have been. Also is it important that my name as it is listed in our teams listing match my user ID I got from F@H when I got my passkey? Any help would be great.

I do and bam back tot he start looking at the install.bat icon in the folder. Not sure what to do now I have tried to lauch folding @ home config only but it wont work.

Go back to the download page and read the writing in red letters, specially the ones about expired .exes!!

I am running windows XP home 32bit. I downloaded the client from a PM sent to me by Dice. Do I need to un-install it and go gt another version?

anyone? I have tried downloading the version that says it expires in 2010 but it will not install for some reason. I have checked out my .Net and I have 3.5 SP1. Not sure what to do. I will just keep folding with the normal client but I would like to help out my team by adding some PPD if I can.

you need to download the 6.24B file, and you just replace the file in an existing installation with it, you don't install from it
