Nvidia GPU folders....bumpy road ahead.

Just a heads up that you will be seeing some new projects starting today and your ppd is going to drop. The units are larger and more complex. These units put ATI and Nvidia on almost equal footing ppd wise. Never fear though, there are some optimizations that have not yet been implemented that will boost performance back up a bit. I've also read that we should see more load on the CPU with these new WU's. Finally, the temperatures on your GPU will probably go up a few degrees on these new WU's.

Oh well, that extra heat will help keep my place warm now that summer is winding down!

eeek, more heat. I might have to put my back to factory settings if it stays over 70C. Dont want my nifty bumps to melt or anything ;)

Mike

as long as they are making the units do MORE, I dont really care about the points. I REALLY want to see a major breakthrough using the stuff we have done on F@H!!

You not kidding about the WU. Point drops, not sure about the heat though. My rig has been running 100% on all four cores for over a year. I am glad that summer is winding down so maybe I can just use the computer as a heater :P I am not using the latest drivers from Nvidiva. Do you think they would help with PPD?

This is what has been happening today: Last 24 Hours Production
Time Points WUs
09.11, 9pm 430 1
09.11, 6pm 910 2
09.11, 3pm 0 0
09.11, 12pm 1,440 5
09.11, 9am 480 5
09.11, 6am 1,390 3
09.11, 3am 430 1
09.11, 12am 480 1

It's like the WU don't match up with actual production. I see that the point structure has changed. How long is this going to be happening? Is there something I should be doing different?

V... have you checked the logs to see if any of the units have crashed (unstable machine, end unit early)? For all of the new Lambda units I've done, the points are at 430, but even my E8400, 4gb, 8800GTX is getting it's butt kicked by these units. Around 30 seconds more per step than the old 5504 and 5506s.

I have checked log files, and all is just fine. All WU are finished and sent. Nothing seems to be unstable. I will keep checking log files to see if anything is wrong.

Edit: I double checked the log files and found this going on. I don't know what this means, but it can't be good.

Do you have your video card overclocked? If so, try backing it down a bit. Once you get it stable again at the lower speed, work back up as the units will allow.

I think the problems start with this: mdrun_gpu returned -1 after I see that line it seems that the program will not continue. I do not have my video card overclocked, I have been reading that everything must be ultra stable.

how about drivers... you using the current version, or an older one?

I just thought I would share this with everyone because everything was fine a couple of days ago until today or maybe yesterday. My graphic card is a XFX280. I have not made any changes to my rig since I got the card. I am using older drivers for the card. I am using driver version 6.14.11.7741

Might give the newer CUDA drivers a shot. http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_get.html Version 177.84 for both XP and Vista.

I will give that a try in a couple of days. I did windows updates on tuesday and I think it turned on windows firewall. I turned it off because I use a different firewall and a router. That could have been the conflict. I didn't know both were running at the same time. I just finished a SMP client when all these pop ups from windows firewall were showing. Then the computer restarted by itself and changed my internet connection. I never had that happen before. Weird.

I guess you've already done the normal scans for virus and spyware to rule that out?

I did a full system scan before I went to bed last night.

I went to the F@H main page and there is news about GPU2 client http://folding.typepad.com/ so it's not just me.

No you're not!
My GPU client started EUEing a couple days ago and the point factor is 430 instead of 480.
So I am getting the newer WU's and they are causing chaos with my 8800GTX.
Its averaging 2-3 WU's and then starts EUEing, I have to restart the GPU client to get it to stop.
