Operation Fold-a-Way - Giving Back To Those Who Fold
Thanks to four great companies we have a ton of prizes that will be going to six very lucky individuals in the coming weeks. AMD, Corsair, ECS and Palit have stepped up to the plate in a huge way and have donated thousands of dollars worth of hardware to be given out to our folding team.
Palit is the biggest supporter when it comes to dollars and sent over SIX GeForce 9600 GT 1GB Sonic edition graphics cards. These cards retail for $139.99 over at Newegg, so this is $840 in prizes thanks to Palit Multimedia!!
Next up we have ECS who chipped in four GF8200A motherboards, which retail for $74.99 each. By sending over $300 in motherboards we have something to plug those nice new Palit GeForce 9600 GT graphics cards into, so a big hats off to ECS for sending over the motherbaords, which look great and feature
Right behind ECS we have Corsair Memory, who has long supported the enthusiast community coming together for us again with four 4GB kits of DDR2 800MHz memory. At $144.00 each these TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX memory kits come in at $576.00 and are more than plenty to run folding on the ECS GF8200A motherboard.
With motherboards, memory and a video card the only other big item we are missing were AMD AM2+ processors. We got our hands on some AMD Phenom 9600 quad-core processors from a source that wanted to be un-named and that is fine with us. At $119 each these processors add up to $476!
This mfolding contest has $2,192 worth of prizes in it, which makes it one of the biggest contests ever done here on Legit Reviews. I spent some time thinking about how this contest would be done, but I think I have figured out a way to make it happen and keep everyone happy. For starters when I posted that I was going to be doing the contest and gave one of the cards to Vicaphit already as it pays off to be active here daily. With one card already sent out to be folded on this is how the contest is going to pan out.
Starting Monday (9-22-08) and ending Sunday (9-28-08) we will be taking nominations from active folding team members on who deserves to win one of the systems and the two people with the most votes come Sunday will be sent one of the core platforms. You can't nominate yourself and you might want to post what you will do with the system once you get it and why you need it. This way two of the most deserving people get core systems and can fold with them.
The following week (9-29-08 to 10-5-08) all active folders will be eligible for a random drawing and a chance to win the last two 'platforms' that we will be giving out.
At the end of the competition the staff will be awarding the last lone GeForce 9600 GT to one deserving individual who stood out during the two weeks this took place, but didn't win the nomination contest or the random drawing. All said and done come early October we should have at least 30,000 more points per day for the team thanks to our folding team members. If you can't afford to finish building the system then please ask to not be included in the contest! I'll cover the shipping to those here in the US and Canada, but if you are in any other country you'll have to foot the shipping expenses along with any customs taxes or fees. Hope you guys enjoy this contest and think that it was fairly designed for both those that deserve one of the platforms and those that join the team as a result of this contest. As with any contest people always try to find ways around the rules and as such I reserve all the right to amend the rules if I see abuse.
Don't thank Legit Reviews for making this happen, remember that Palit, ECS, Corsair and AMD made it possible and four people will be walking away with the sore system below:

place holder for future updates...
BTW Corsair is still shipping 3 more memory kits to me as they sent one and not four on accident, so in case you are wondering where the kits are - now you know!

Can't do it privately as only folding team members can nominate (I did it this way to prevent people or a group of friends that join just to vote and leave).KnightRid wrote:Are mods allowed to be nominated?

As for what I would do with one if I won (that is if staff can get in on this) would retire couple of my old Pent D's and run this thing for all its worth 24/7. Yeah I have the test bench but its tore apart on a regular basis so no sooner than I have it running stable I have to take it back apart again

I think its a pretty good system to ensure that everyone gets a fair chance at getting something.
Thanks to all the sponsors, the hardware will go to great use!

Re: Operation Fold-a-Way - Giving Back To Those Who Fold
I'll get things started here witha nomanation for Sporg, DaIceMan, Darkstar, and Bubba.
I think the most important thing is to find people who will keep these donations up and running as much as possible for LR. I think the people i've nominatied have shown their support by helping others in the forums and their folding numbers speak for themselves. Sporg doesnt have the longevity but as soon as he won his last card from LR its been folding ever since. I'd just assume nominating everyone in the top 20 producers for the last 24hr ave on the stats page.
If i was given a system I would be able to bring world peace, end world hunger, stop Ben Stiller from making another movie, and most importantly give every kid a puppy... but seriously i have everything else needed to get one of these folding machines up and running from day one and it would be a dedicated folding machine - 24/7
Thanks to all the companies that donated. I know I will look at Palit first when I buy another GPU in the next month or so....

I'd say bubba definitely deserves one; other than that, just about any of the top producers (say, 3K ppd plus) that have been around for a sufficiently long time are probably willing and able to keep their rigs folding 24/7...

first off id like to nominate grunt, as a thanks for his service to this country.
second (if were allowed more than one nomination) id like to nominate skierkid because i accidentally shipped him a mobo with the wrong bios on it. Sorry!
good luck to everyone!
EDIT: wow, seeing as how people seem to be nominating based on PPD, this is a perfect time for my memory to have died](./images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif)

Re: Operation Fold-a-Way - Giving Back To Those Who Fold
Guess I'll just have to put my hope in the random drawing!
I'll keep my eyes on the team roster and see who's pumping out the points and rising the ladder. I think I may just have to retry installing the SMP client alongside the GPU client, OC my E6750 a bit, and get my rig up for some 24/7 folding! That is, if I can sleep through the noise x.x

Re: Operation Fold-a-Way - Giving Back To Those Who Fold
I'm going to start a new thread for nominations and remember it's one vote per active folding team member.
As for who should get one don't forget about the people that have been folding for years and aren't putting up big numbers. Be creative on who should get them. Does anyone here need a system? Can't afford a new system and where this could help them? If you think people should nominate you make a new thread here in the folding subforum and tell people why you should be nominated and if you can even use it. Obviously my name isn't in the hat on this one.

Nothing was said in the last thread about wanting people to enter into a drawing, but it didn't stop people from telling everyone they were ingeokilla wrote:Not to kill the fun or anything, but Apop said nominations won't take place till next Monday.

Re: Operation Fold-a-Way - Giving Back To Those Who Fold
I just want you all to know, I have bowed out of the core system drawing/nominations due to already receiving one of the 9600GTs. I don't have the space or the money to build a new system anyway, so this is the best for me!
I promise all of you that I will get this folding on my fiancee's machine asap. I do need to buy a new PSU as the Dell 305W won't cut it anymore. I will post a recomendation post in the appropriate sub-forum for that because I need suggestions on the PSU.
Thanks to Palit, AMD, ECS, and Corsair for their generosity, and their assistance in the need to cure Alzheimer's and Dementia.
Fold on everyone!
