Welp just ran the new version of Speedfan since my laptop would run sluggish here of late and get REAL hot through the keypad where I couldnt hardly keep my hand over it, here is what I got...

OUCH - I am hoping those temps are wrong, but with how crappy its been running, I could believe it. I want to try and take it apart to clean it out a bit, maybe the fan is just smucked up with dirt or something. Also the fan has been making noise :( maybe it is going bad.

Is only a 3300+/2ghz cpu, so I dont think it will effect the team a whole lot, but I am hoping to get it up and running again soon if I can get the temps down or if someone has another program to test the temp on the laptop, if you think the speedfan one is wrong.

ARGH. I was going to take one down tomorrow to put the water cooling in it also, now this - I might wait to do the water cooling till I figure this one out.

Holy Mofo, That's a hot laptop.

Take it to bits and get all the dust off of the fan and heatsink that you can. Odds are that with those temperatures some of the dust will have been cooked onto the heatsink and wont come off, but you should be able to drastically reduce temps with a good clean.

Also, while it is stripped down, re-apply some better thermalpaste.

Did dusting it out help any? I have to dust my laptop out even more frequently than my desktop... at least it was built to be taken outside easily. :)

If this is a Dell laptop I'd recommend using this program instead of Speedfan: http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/

You might have to take the heatsink fan assembly out out. The reason I say this is that recently I had a laptop that failed. Now I had thought I had cleaned it and blew it out and such. However when I did the postmortem on it I found that on the inside behind the fans and fins there was a gap that had filled with dust that had become hard as felt. I could only see this when I had the whole assembly out of the laptop case and was able to view it from the system board side. I was then able to remove it and get it cleared. The laptop is still dead however I did learn that just because you have blown the assembly out, that it doesn't mean that it is clean. Besides you can then take that opportunity to clean off the typically substandard pads/thermal paste and replace it with good stuff.

OH pain in the butt factor 8.

I remember when that happened to my laptop. A lot of dust got clogged and it kept on turning off because it would overheat. I just removed all the dust and it was fine again.

Looks like i will have to try a complete disassembly. I popped the back off (what a pain!) and blew out the dirt, but without even having F@H running I am at 75C right now :(

Might get to it this weekend - have 2 hsf's to do some testing on and I REALLY want to get that water cooling installed!
