ppd all over the place here of late

Has anyone else had this, where your ppd is going wacky?

I have the same computers running fah as I did weeks ago, yet my ppd is down to under 9000 when it used to be around 10k-11k.

Did they change the points for units? Am I just getting crappy work units to do?

I have been checking my computers daily to make sure they are running and my ppd still has gone down!

Just curious if anyone else is having this same problem or not.

Mike

I am so close to the top 1000 and with my points going down, it will take a while to get there :p

Yeah, gone are the days of 480 unit after 480 unit. Most of the units I get now are 511 pointers that take longer to run thus bringing down the overall ppd. I do get some 384 pointers that are faster to run, but they aren't as popular as the 511s.

I got lots of 511 point WUs over the last few days, forcing me to leave my computer on. Those 511 point WUs make my computer lag like hell when running 2 or more MSN convos, or trying to watch things not on WMP.

On a side note. I believe I completed at least 4 GPU WU yesterday, with at least 3 of them being 511 point WUs and one 384 point. However, I seem to be missing at least 1000 points. http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/ ... =&u=375886. My computer was on for the whole day (on for over 24 hours), yet only the 511 points seem to be registering. WHERE ARE MY POINTS?!

YESSS!!! mine have also been unstable, so i underclocked both cards, it seems to be good, i know it's screwey when i usually get at least 384, if not over 1k per update, and i had like 6 updates in a day with 0, got EUE on a few units with one card; and in one update-this is very bizzarre- 3 units netted me UNDER 384pts  THAT was when i KNEW somethin was messed the F*** up

edit- just look at my last couple days production, i havnt even touched a thing on it in weeks, it went from 8.6k, to 6.3k, to 5k, to 4k, to 3.6k, and now it's gonna be 6k again, it's been folding 24/7 the past week or so, so it makes no sense

I've noticed over the last week that the WU's have been all over the place as far as point value goes!
I am getting 353, 384, 480 and 511's in no particular order. This is apparently happening to everyone. When I noticed my PPD dropping I started checking individual and team scores and they are consistently down for everyone!

Although I am producing about 2600 ppd when the norm for this machine is 1800...

I have been watching this post for awhile now and I would just like to remind everyone why we fold. Points are great to stay intrerested in F@H, but do nothing for research. I think we should all remember why we fold and not worry so much about the points. What comes out of the research is what is important, right? :) I say go with the flow as far as points are concerned. :) Just happy that Legit Reviews is in the top 100 :supz:

That's true, but if the loss of points means that WUs are getting lost and not used by the researchers despite finishing them without any problem, then we're doing nothing but just wasting our electricity.

That's very true geokilla. Sometimes I wonder the same thing. I know alot of what they are doing is in Beta form so I do expect to see issues. I was just trying to make the point that sometimes it is just a server issue or something that will give you points at a later time. I truely hope that running a computer 24/7 is for a good cause, don't you.

I look at it this way: There are probably people who just want to be at the top of something. Being part of the "Team everyone wants to be" is something of a status symbol. Since that is achieved by donating money (electricity and processing power in this case) to a charity, I see that the points struggle is a great way to get people more involved with the program.

That's exactly what I was trying to say. No harm done to a few missed WU. As long as everyone is treated equal. :)

Folding for future cures is whats its all about, But the idea of a competitive association keeps it interesting!
With the competitive idea going, this urges people to tweak their setups to speed up WU production which is good for the cause!

Fold On! :supz:

Also makes people buy new hardware :)

Mike

you would think after all these years they would be getting out of BETA status sometime soon

The harm imo is the extra carbon gas that gets released into the environment in order to produce more electricity, as well as our wallet due to higher electricity costs.

However, this thread is not about that so meh. Anyone notice that there's been A LOT of 511 point WUs lately? These units are making my computer lag like hell, getting sick and tired of these units. I want my 353 point WUs.

Btw, I was on the folding forum yesterday and it seems that PhysX has a very MINOR effect on folding.Anyone wanna try and confirm this? Thread is here

And of course, there's this problem too that probably half of us GPU folders get. Slow 2D operations

@Knight. I don't think Folding will ever be moved outta beta. I used to play MapleStory and I recall reading something on why MapleStory will always be beta. If I remember correctly, it's because MapleStory is free, and constantly gets updated and what not, so hence they decide to give it a "beta" status. Maybe that's when the Folding team is doing.

geokilla, your last update had 1217 points! Are those the points you were missing? Fold on! I would never insult a person on LR folding team except, maybe martini161  Just joking martini161. All kidding aside those 511 WU'S are pretty hard to pump out. Just would like to say that the PPD are all over the map and there is nothing we can do about it.

Edit: geokilla, you just had a massive update: 2,271 points! WTG! :supz:

Ahahaha thanks. I wonder if those 1217 points came from me or my friend..He's folding under my name as well and we're trying to catch up/beat peskylittlebum. According to FahMon, I finished a SMP WU at around 11am EST, while I finished another 1.1 511 point WUs while I was at school. The 2nd out of my 3rd GPU WU for the day got corrupted :(.

Oh, did I mention my other friend with a 9800GT is considering to run folding@home as well? Hehe.

It's true that the points are very messed up. I have no idea whether the points are coming from me or my friend. But as long as the WUs are getting in and I get my points, then it's all good. Otherwise, I'd be mad for wasting electricity like this as I said in the previous post.

another thing i've noticed is that my PPD average keeps going down(currently ~5500ppd) even tho i'm putting out a steady 6500PPD

oh yeah, AND my SMP keeps crashing because my OC is unstable #-o i'd rather not stop the GPU to fix the SMP tho, lol GPU is doing a LOT more for the cause than SMP's one unit every two days

Wasn't it stable before? Make sure that you're running 1:1 for the FSB:RAM, and just bump up the vcore by one notch. That should help a bit.
