SMP Question

Hey all,
Question about smp - i've searched but have not found very much. Also there isn't much in other forums either.
I've been getting stuck with the 511 pointers a lot as of late - which is killing my ppd. The 4870 finishes them in around 4 hours 20 minutes - which is quite crappy. And my cpu client keeps getting 225 pointers (which take like 18 hours)...further killing ppd. Lately I've been thinking about turning off my cpu client and going the smp route. I'm running a q9550 - but is it worth it (from those of you that already have?)? I'm not worried about power or heat...and if I have to keep my rig running a bit more due to the time constraints of smp wu...i will. But will it boost my ppd by a noticable amount? And which one is better Deino or MPICH - i've read that Deino gives higher ppd, but is much more unstable...

Really no differences in stability between the two. Best bet is to fold two cores SMP and two GPU, would get you better points

I run only GPU-2-MPICH.

Did you set the
bigpackets = BIG ???
Did you add the
-smp flag into
extra-parms option???
Those 2 above can be done either by edit
client.cfg file or with tag
-configonly tag ......
I'm running Deino and systems always get WUs 2653 (1760 points) or 2665 (1920 point)

Dual core yes you will get those two, quad cores you get others

run advmethods, I get a bunch of different WUs. SMP was originally designed for 4 core.

I've been running SMP for awhile on both C2Q and C2D (even on my laptop)... of course with advmethod enabled
From what I know, if I set the
big_packets to
Normal, then smp client will get all kind of WUs.
However, if I set the
big_packets to
BIG, then smp client will big packets WUs (points range from 1760 to ~2.5k
Most of the time, all my SMP clients get 2653 and 2665 WUs

I have advmethods flag off, and the size of the files set to big. Should I change it to normal so I can get all kinds of WU? Would I see better PPD with normal instead of big?
