8800GTS folding 4850 Gaming

Hey guys,

I just got an old 8800GTS from a friend since he bought himself an XFX 4890 Black Edition and doesn't need it anymore.

So I was wondering, since i've got my 4850 for folding and gaming right now, if it's possible to run the 8800 GTS 640 aside the 4850 without mayor problems?
So the 8800 would do folding or physix.

Anybody tried that yet? :)

There's a chance it'll work. However I believe you need to be using Windows 7 for it to work properly. It definitely won't work if you're using Windows XP.

Also next time, edit your post instead of double posting in such a short time frame.

Ok I got them both built in now and the drivers installed right. The GPU Folding on ATI is still working right but the second client says I don't have a supported GPU.

Although the 8800 drivers still don't seem to be right.
Any Ideas?

Edit: just found this on the Microsoft site

A user could force the installation of a XPDM driver for each of these devices, and therefore get heterogeneous multi-adapter multi-monitor to work as in Windows XP.

How do I get XPDM drivers?

the only time I get the "gpu not supported" error from the 2nd gpu client (other than when the display drivers aren't installed) is when I only have one monitor display enabled in the control panel/center. enable the 2nd one and it runs fine for me. I will note that I've only run nvidia gpu's so I don't even know if that will help on this. Just figured maybe if it hasn't been looked at yet it could be an option. as far as gaming, I don't even know. I would assume if you only have the physx driver for the nvidia card and run your ati driver it might work, but I have no clue.

Good luck with that. I tried the inverse with my system. I was using the 4850 for gaming and wanted a 9600GSO to fold. I spent quite a few hours trying to get the 2nd card working the way I wanted.

Hehe, run the 2nd card in VM :) Seriously though, let us know if you get it going.

[edit: I just reread my post - I just wanted to be clear that I never got it working. My comment about VM was pure speculation. It is something that I didn't try.]

I tried to hook up my second monitor to the 8800, but that just stayed blank and I couldn't set anything to display on it.

What VM could you recommend?

Do I need to install XP or 7 on that to do GPU folding?

So now I've downloaded Sun VirtualBox and tried to install an OS, but neither XP or 7 go beyond the setup screen, even after 2 hours of waiting :-k . Any Ideas what I've done wrong?
