Ok I might also have a XP X32 1.6 Dual core run also... So i think i would need a GPU and SMP one. Not sure. Their website is hard to navigate....

for the SMP client/multi-core CPU: http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegrou ... -mpich.exe
and for GPU which you can use on GTX 295 and 9800GT: http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegrou ... ay-623.msi
and the single core CPU text client: http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegrou ... 86-623.zip
and Single core installer file: http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegrou ... ay-623.msi

refer to all the installation guides we have up in the sub-forum, and reply here if you have further issues

first off, i do not recommend using F@H on a laptop because the yields are negligible and very few notebooks or netbooks have sufficient cooling to keep the CPU/GPU at decent temperatures.

i think this order should work:

1. Install FAH SMP client from the original file
2. Run install.bat file in the directory you made
3. type the username/pass you use to login to Windows in the cmd window that pops up; if it worked it'll say press any key to exit when you are done
3. Run the fah.exe ; in windows 7 it just flashes the window, this is normal, continue...
4- download the beta client here: http://www.stanford.edu/~kasson/folding ... 32-x86.exe
5- copy the .exe you downloaded into the SMP directory you made earlier, replacing the original .exe file
6- run the new .exe, it should ask for username first and all the info you've likely seen before, just be sure to set 'disable cpu affinity' "yes" in the advanced options section
7- make a shortcut on the desktop, right click and select properties, and at the end of the "target" line, type " -smp 2 -verbosity 9" without the "", -smp n where n is the number of cores your CPU has it should run properly from there

make sure you set a unique machine ID per client(type yes when it asks you to change advanced options) that is basically the only thing after your username/team you have to type(press enter for things that are true, you don't have to type out no if no is highlighted ( [no] ) only type what you need to change

let us know how it goes

the SMP client gets very large units so expect it to take a while per %

however, i missed one thing, for the shortcut, right click and select properties, and at the end of the "target" line, type -smp 2 -verbosity 9
except for a quad make it -smp 4, ie it is supposed to be -smp n, n representing how many cores your CPU has

when you press ctrl+alt+del you should see something like this(this is my dual core):

lol, just a tip: save as jpeg

but it seems its still not using the other cores, so set the flag (is what the -smp thing is, its called a flag) to -configonly and remove the -smp 4 and verbosity flags, and run it to get into the config, go through the options (and advanced options) again, and when you get to "Disable CPU affinity lock" set to yes. then reset the -smp and -verbosity flags and run it again wait a couple minutes and reply again what task manager says

hmm, i can't really think of anything else if you are using the -smp 4 flag

the backup is(which i used for a long time until a few days ago actually, only takes a minute to get working):
1. Download: http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegrou ... 86-623.zip
2. unzip into a folder you make anywhere(i put it in my doc's when i do it) named core0
3. copy the contents of that whole folder and paste it three times(so in your my documents folder you end with a folder for core0, core1, core2, core3)
4. run the .exe to go through setup, just pay attention to the machineID's used
5. optionally, i'd put a shortcut to desktop or start bar(so you dont have to go in each folder to run them)
6. fold

this method uses one window per core, so you taskbar can get cluttered, but this is a reliable way to get it Folding
