The F@H GPU client hasn't been updated in years... Since 2008 to be exact... A little birdie told me an update is coming next week!

Just a heads up for our F@H team members

Sweet. GPU3 should change the huge gap in folding performance between ATI and NVIDIA GPUs.

I wonder if they're going to implement a bonus system like they do with SMP2 and -bigadv folding...

I'm going to guess its gonna come out right after GTX 480, maybe the GPU3 coding will be better optimized for it(and other high end GPUs, *cough* 5870..)

Well hopefully they will make it an AUTO update! I hate having to manually do all the crap when the technology is there to just push a new version.

Mike

yes, I am lazy :p LMAO

Just got an update:
We plan on releasing a public build in the 2-4 week timeframe.
Pretty darn lame if you ask me. So much for getting a boost from GeForce GTX 480 or 470 video cards right away.

They said they were going to update the GPU client back in January... Time to take their word with a grain of salt again.

Please reread that FAH NEWS post more carefully. Here is Vijay's post ...http://folding.typepad.com/news/2010/01 ... pencl.html
Here is an update and some more details on the third generation GPU core. As I stated before, this core is built on OpenMM, which brings the science further along and allows us to make easier updates. OpenMM supports OpenCL in beta form in its 1.0 release (scheduled for late January 2010), but it is important to stress that the OpenCL support is very early and so we will not be relying on OpenCL in the first releases of the GPU3 core.
OpenMM with OpenCL support was scheduled for release in January, NOT the fah GPU3 fahcore.

And if the fah client was to use OpenCL, it certainly couldn't get released before OpenCL's January release date.

Please also note that GPU3 is actually considered a new fahcore, not a whole new client. Your client version may get a slight rev to support this new fahcore (as has been done in the past, just a guess) but this first release will not appear to be that much different than any other new fahcore release from the client's point of view. However, the science done inside the fahcore and sent back to Stanford is said to be very different.

I hope that helps clear up any misconception about a January release date, and help to alleviate any misplaced consternation as a result of that misconception.

6 months is ages? Maybe... That's the date on the previous Mac 10.5 installer, Released: 2009-09-25. ;) But then we're both getting off topic.
