Graphics Card Folding-Poll

Post by skier »

easy question, if you have one card that doesnt and one that does you can specify in a reply

personally, my 9600GSOs as well as GTX260 both whine, GT240's/GTS250 do not

im curious if it is something to do with age, performance, or model

My GTX260 does

Hardly been overlocked in it's life and I only game for an hour a week at most.
Sounds like the caps or something are making the noise, just like some CRT's do.

My 260, 275 and 285 both have a high pitch whine to them that is annoying as all can be.... When you overclock or change the shaders clock frequency the pitch changes higher or lower depending on if you raise or lower the MHz.

No. My 8800GT doesn't whine but it is pretty loud. It goes at about 50% fan speed when folding.

haha yeah, not to mention in benches too  had the card in my sig @730/1275/1538 just a moment ago and it would start whining every time it went to fullscreen, and every time the scene changed in 3DM06 the noise would change frequency ](*,)

They did when I first got them, I don't think they are as noticeable now though.

My 8800GT whines like a pig and the pitch of the whiny depend its clockspeed. My other cards do not whine at all.

I have that fanless Accelero on my 8800gt with a 120mm fan laying on top of it and have no noise

My GTX260 is loud when folding but I dont have any high pitch noises.

9600GSO has been out of the folding loop due to my one MB/CPU failure but I dont remember it being loud at all.
