It seems the new browsers use the gpu to make web browsing faster (really, hmmm, maybe it will speed up my bandwidth? lol *sigh*) and web browsing becomes almost impossible on my 8800gt video card while gpu folding is going on.

Anyone else notice this? Is it just my old video card? Any way to disable the gpu part of the browser and go back to just cpu?

When you say browserlike IE9. I installed it on one computer and seemed to have a lot of bugs. When the monitor went into sleep mode and I would come back there were no icons to be seen. I unistalled IE9 after a 1/2 day.

In chrome;
type in "about:flags" and see if the GPU features are enabled

IE 9;
go to the options tab and internet options and look for the box that says " Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering"

Firefox;

type in "about:config" promise to be careful and Type direct2d in Filter and set gfx.direct2d.disabled value to true (if its value already set to true you don’t need to change anything).

Also somewhere in the advanced options there is a check-box telling FF to use hardware acceleration when possible that can be unticked.

I just know twitter uses GPU acceleration, and photobucket uses shockwave which also uses gfx
