Changed Folding System

Post by Apoptosis »

I recently updated my office PC and am very happy with the results...

Previous 24/7 Folding System:

Intel 630 Processor
ECS 945G-M3 Micro-ATX Motherboard
2GB Corsair PC2-5300 memory CL4 @ 533MHz
GeForce 7600GS Silent PCIe Video Card
Seagate 160GB SATA HDD
Antec NeoHE 430W PSU
Antec P150 Case

New 24/7 Folding System:

Intel Core 2 Processor E6700
Intel D979XBX 'bad axe' motherboard
OCZ Tempest CPU Cooler (with bad fan out of the box)
BFG Tech GeForce 7800GTX 512 OC OC'd more to 485MHz/1.4GHz
4GB Corsair PC2-6400C4 Memory @ 800MHz
Western Digital RaptorX SATA HDD
OCZ GameXstream 700W Power Supply
Antec P150 case

The system is mush faster than my Intel 640 and i'm amazed by the quickness on the desktop. I'm back folding after 2 days down and it's on a Conroe!

The first work unit that was downloaded on the new system was a p1478_tet_1478 GROMACS worth 364.00 points... It's completing a step every 4.5 minutes or so.

Thats a really nice rig. Though it really does look like some of the review stuff got mislaid on its way back :P Seriously though, 4GB of RAM?

Hopefully it'll fold all WU's that crazy :P

Sweet system..........Love the RAM :)

I've just got a new 3800+ to replace the Opty 170 and 4400+ that the so called "expert" board killed (along with one of my 1GB sticks)

The 3800 was only 150euro ;)
I'm not overclocking because I think this Biostar mATX board doesn't lock the PCI bus....I can't get over 225MHz FSB even when I set all the multis to 3x

I'll wait till xmas for Conroe.....I can't afford a new mobo, ddr2 and cpu just yet.

I love this system... Get this... I put the monitor and computer to the Seasonic PowerAngel meter and the entire system is only pulling 192W of power during folding (1 instance for 50% CPU usage).

I'm really pleased with Core 2 Duo and the power saving is real.
