he is a convert from another team. He stumbled across our site, and was unhappy with his current folding team. We're all happy he's here, he's add at least 100PPD to our team

Ah, I'm way behind, welcome to the team!

I had been using the SMP client for a little while but have been doing a lot of system changes lately. The 680i board that I have my Quad core in doesn't seem to work correctly in Linux.

SMP is without a doubt the way to go for points. I'm really curious to see how well ATI's R600 does in folding as it might be the way to go.

With running a VM though, would I get less folding performance compared to having a machine dedicated to folding? Especially since I'm already hard on the rig that VM would end up being installed on.

yes there is a 10-15% hit. Also on the 2605 WUs, P4Ds do not fold right at all, normal TPF should be 12-15mins, for some reason they average 1hr to 1.5hrs.

But its worth it to not go through the hassle of installing linux. You should have at least a gig of ram though

Well, I'm a linux guru so installing Linux doesn't bother me.
