GPU and CPU folding

I was wondering if you have one of the ATI cards for folding AND you fold on both cores of a dual core cpu, will it slow the GPU folding down?

I am thinking to the future about getting one of the ATI cards for this dual cpu machine - I will get a different motherboard also, but was curious if the GPU should be run seperate from the CPU folding, or if I would have to let one core open for the GPU folding and only be able to use one core for the CPU folding.

It has been explained that if you run a GPU client and two folding clients (or one SMP client) you seriously delay the return of completed work units. The GPU and SMP clients were designed to get the completed work units back to Stanford as soon as is possible.

The way I understand it is that the work units are delayed by as much as 65% of preferred deadlines while only gaining 15% in points over running one CPU work unit and one GPU work unit.

The GPU Client uses almost 100% of one core transferring data back and forth. Stanford request that you only use one core of a dual core machine for folding reseerving the other one for the GPU Client.

My suggestion is to stick with CPU folding for now and think about running the SMP client on VMware if you've got a capable system. If not the Windows SMP client will be available sometime soon.

exactly, SMP yields much better results and IMO is less buggy than the GPU client
