How to Install Windows 32bit SMP Client
1.
Download Client from here
http://www.stanford.edu/~kasson/folding ... Client.EXE
2.
Summary of instructions:
1. Install Microsoft .NET framework
2. Install Folding@Home SMP client
3. Run install.bat from the F@H directory
4. Start the F@H client
5. Normal Setup like any other console F@H version
Notes:
You need to setup windows so that you use a username and login to get into windows. The install.bat file does not work with a blank password.
Client does not resume when you hibernate. You need to restart it.
Client does not work correctly with more than one mpiexec.exe running. Make sure to check your running processes to be sure this is the case
Client does not run correctly as a service. That option appear to be broken (is on most betas)
Progress can be monitored via a modified version of Fahmon by uncle fungus. See here

I was really looking forward to running this program...heading back to VMWare and Linux SMP.

Stupid vista - If uac works when I approve the program it should work - but it doesnt, you actually ahve to manually turn the damn thing off to get it to work...so sad
Mike
now to get that other program and figure out how to run the client version with a team numbr and name and stuff

Ok it is running project 2610 - has 4 threads going in the task manager window - 2 for each cpu I guess..??
Still at 0% though :p
are you taking your numbers right from the SMP client window or from the fahmon program?

4 threads is right for a dual core. Yes I am taking it from FahMon. Normally doesn't work, follow the link to Uncle Fungus's version. After about 5 frames run, click in one of the tabs and find benchmark. I'm sorry I don't have it in front of me at the moment
Thanks for the fix Bwall

Will it work the same if I have my other computers monitored on that same fahmon, or do I have to have the dual core by itself to test the benchmark?
I got the others on by downloading new projects, then changing it to the html one o nthe hard drive for the dula core one.
ok benchmarks show this...
27min 28sec - 798.47ppd - MIN
27min 29sec - 797.98ppd - AVG
seems slow, but maybe it is because the stupid intel board wont let me overclock

yeah FAHmon can monitor other systems don't ask me how. I can't tell you if those are slow or not because you don't list a CPU

I get ~ 18mins per frame with project 2652
3800 @2.6GHz --> see sig for specifics
I'll post a quote from my log later on tonight.

I decided to give it another go last night with some faster memory. Still on Kentsfield at 3.5GHz.
800MHz 4-4-4-12 7:59/step
1000MHz 4-5-4-15 7:48/step
And by accident I have some single channel numbers at 1GB.
1000MHz 4-5-4-15 8:55
So....it seems there is a lot of performance to be had with Kentsfield and faster memory. There really isn't that much of a difference between 800 and 1000 in raw bandwidth so it would seem to be extremely sensitive.

yeah kept giving me and error that it couldn't find the work files. Missing work files. SO I said f that and went back to the graphical. not that this is a dedicated folding machine. I should get my others back up and running maybe it'll work right on my 3800x2 but I'll try that later.

E6300 - stock
to monitor other computers on your network you jsut have to share the folding@home folder, then add a new client and go to your network places folder rather than your regualr computer folder - selct the folding@home folder taht you shared on the other computer and BAM it is done

repeat if necessary.

I've noticed the new M$ SMP Beta tends to stop crunching WU's easilly. It tends to hang on my system if I disable or unplug a USB device or open WinTV. ((I've tested this @ stock settings too).
Anyhow, I also noticed when I restart it, it says something like "program restarted over eight times, disabling SSE loops"
Then it runs alot slower.
I suggest you run the client with the -forceasm flag to make sure it uses SSE instructions! It works for me ;)
