Post by skier » Sun May 20, 2007 12:09 pm

i just started folding minutes ago, with my moms P4 3.0GHz, FAH is using 40-52% of the processor, i will only use this computer to try it out, once i get my SIG computer going, ill use that tho,

how long does each "Work Unit" take to finish?

Welcome to the team. I need to get some of my folders back up and running. Will probably do that after I move.

Back to the question.

It mainly depends on what type of core it's processing as (Amber, Gromacs, DGromacs, etc...).

Some information on the different types of processing cores and other general information about the different clients (SMP, PS3, etc..) are avilable at http://folding.stanford.edu/faq.html

sorta. Frames vary widely on work units. can be anywhere from 100 to 5000. I would suggest downloading FahMon (EMIII is out of production, if anyone has it, please upload it to the forums), that will tell you protien name, frames completed, time per frame, and time left of work unit

1000pts a week isn't all too shabby.

On my Pentium D, I get prolly ~1300pts a week with running only one instance of folding and using 50% of the processor.

Some people on here are turning out 2000+ pts a day. Don't worry though, they just have too much free time :P

Or SMP clients ^^

I must be tired, I saw the post name (even though I've read it before) and thought new folder as in new file directory on a computer! D'oh!

*raises hand* Guilty as charged. I just leave my 3 machines running 24/7. 2 dual cores running SMP, and my daily driver with an Athlon running graphical. Aside from power outages once in a while (haven't bought UPS for each machine yet) and a lock up problem one machine is having, I'm always folding on 3 machines... dropping around 2400 ppd.

1000 points a week isn't too bad. If I only had the Athlon machine running, it would be around 900 a week.
