Is there something wrong with my RAM?

Post by bryz05 »

I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit as my OS, I have a motherboard which supported up to 4GB of memory, I have a PCI-E Video card.. My question is, why is that my computer only read 3,5XX GB even though I have a 4GB of memory, where is the 400+MB of memory go? What would be the problem? Is there any significance with the Windows Vista 32bit I'm using right now?! Or should I use 64bit?

I'm looking forward for all of your replies...

Thanks in advanced...

Best regards,

It's a limit of the 32-bit architecture.

Check and see how much memory your system is currently utilizing. Chances are that the 3.5Gb is more than enough and you can save on buying another OS. I have 4Gb Ram and yet I run 32bit XP. I have no programs installed that require more than 3Gb.

1 more question!!! Is 64bit better than 32bit when it comes to gaming? And which is better in overall performance?

Currently 32 bit is better, as games and drivers are optimised for 32 bit.

A year or so from now, 64 bit will be better.
NV and ATI use most of their resourses developing 32 bit drivers as 32 bit windoze accounts for the vast amount of their customer base.
Likewise game makers currently devote their time to 32 bit because the vast amount of customers / users run a 32 bit OS.

Ok, I think I should wait for the 64bit OS to stabilize before I upgrade my desktop computer...

Thanks to all...

Hopefully MS will give 64-bit Vista more support than they did with 64-bit XP. :|

It already has far more support, Vista 32-bit and 64-bit are generally comparable, unless you're trying to run 16-bit programs.
