Should I install Vista

Post by Tim Burton »

Should I install Vista? I was at the MS Launch and I got a copy of Vista Beta. Should I install it when I upgrade my hardware next week? How stable is it? Is it stable for games?

ATM i would say no. We still dont know how DRM plays into the picture, and every thing i have been reading says that it will not offer an real improvement over windows xp. its more or less MS's attempt at a OSX style interface.

If you have the beta...

Why not create a partition and install it there? I would love to get my hands on a Bete Version and work with it on a partition if not just get another HDD.

Isn't it just a "trial" version too? Expires in like 90 or 180 days? I know my copy of Longhorn expires in 180 days and my trial version of 2003 Server expires in 180 days. (Thank god I have a retail copy too)

I'd like to try it also, but I'd put it on a second (removeable HD) to make it a little easier. That way you wouldn't get any conflicts with the other OS, just a safty precaution........... 8)

The Feb bulid (5308) is supposed to have all the bells and whistles that should be in the final realease. so far I've bulit one on my Virtual server with no problems, granted it was the business version and the video was kinda crappy (VS only emulates a s-3 trio 8meg card) it looks kinda of cool and has some neet features. Now i don't think it's anywhere close to ready for gamers, with the new nerfed administrators group i think games might have a tougher time running in a more "locked down" enviroment Also be carefull about going the dual boot route as i think it does away with the boot.ini (you can still change it in msconfig in the list)

so enjoy.

Microsoft have delayed Beta 2

It looks like they will release a RC2 version soon with support for newer GFX cards.

Unless you prefer playing around with the boot.ini file which ToMKaT has instructed, I suggest you find an old unused HDD to play it on and totally isolating it from your main boot HDD.

I'd pay anything just to see that translucent window title bar working!
