I'm Going With OpenSuse OS

Post by Razorbacx »

Ok, I've had some major issues with Windows XP Home here as of late and have atempted everything that I know, plus things advised by others (Knightrid) to correct these problems and am just burned out on dealing with microsoft. Slow boot times and random freezes is enough for me to pull my remaining hair out. At this point I would just assume to take a sledge hammer to my rig and start all over, but feel that my wife wouldn't appreciate me doing so. So, I'm going to go with a Linux system and have been recommended to go with OpenSuSe, although my dependency on windows is still evident I'm going to create a dual boot system. Any recommendations or do's and don'ts?

Thanks,

Have you use Linux before? Should be pretty straightforward if you have. If you haven't, try ubuuntu. It has a version which can be run off the disc. It will give you a good idea of what to expect.

Well, for some apparent reason OpenSuSe failed to install. Maybe some hardware conflict, although I am unsure. It continued to lock up on me after performing the System Analysis and trying to go into the Time Zone section of the setup.

I've dl'ed the latest version of Ubuntu and will give that a try. I have also just reformatted my HD and reloaded win xp dedicating half my HD to that and the other will be dedicated for Ubuntu. I'm still going the dual boot route and hopefully sometime down the line I'll dump windows all together and go with linux full time.

Anyone have any other thoughts about Ubuntu. The Do's and Dont's would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Don't ask me, cause I know nothing! I'm lost in this world of technology and am barely holding my head above water. Thank the Good Lord for LR, otherwise I would have drowned years ago.

I'm typing this on my laptop which has Ubuntu installed, I was always a SUSE fan, but I'm now leaning towards Ubuntu. I forgot how cool apt-get was ;)
