Gaming in XP/Vista/32/64
Re: Gaming in XP/Vista/32/64
I dont know the big diffrence but I do know Vista STINKS!!!

Re: Gaming in XP/Vista/32/64
I can definitely vouch for performance degradation in Vista versus XP. In Vista Ultimate x64, F.E.A.R. hitches on 7900GTX SLI. Under XP it never did. Maybe it's drivers, but you still have to put up with the Vista drivers so you will see a performance hit whether it comes from bad drivers or the OS itself...

yeah but xp wasnt always as great as it is now, people. vista isnt that old yet, but the "degradation" isn't THAT bad.

I don't think we need to make excuses for Microsoft. Vista may not be that old yet, but it went through beta, and MS chose to release it way too early. That was their fault and now they can live with the consequences of their greed.
I agree that Vista stinks.

Re: Gaming in XP/Vista/32/64
Blaa Blaa Blaa Microsoft releasing early and so on... I dual boot XP Pro ( 32Bit ) and Vista 64.... I Run Sli'd Nvidia GTS 512mb ( new generation ) graphics cards, and since Nvidia released their latest drivers ( noted they released the Vista 64 drivers BEFORE the WinXP ones ) everything works fine, in fact more than fine. IMHO building an XP system now is just asking to be outdated, buying a 32Bit operating system is also outdated, 64Bit is here!! and we are starting to see benefits of this operating system in games such as Crysis ( see http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=698&p=7 )... Now I admit due to Vista being new, there are problems, and there are more problems on the 64Bit version due to support issues, But from a gamer's point of view, who is probably going to have Nvidia / Creative / AMD-Intel based boards, most of these issues have gone now.
When the Software developers chooses to support 64Bit software, then having Vista 64Bit is a bonus, as you will get performance increases. If the developers do not support 64Bit, then you can still use the software at no degredation in performance. So whats the point in shooting yourselves in the foot?
Finally as time moves on, improved drivers, improved software = XP becoming an obsolete and slow operating system.
