can you get into safe mode? Shut the power off when its on the splash screen. When in there disable restore point then restart you computer back into safe mode again. Run an anti virus. It might work. If not then I'll let you know I had the same problem mine was a virus

Um no. That's not how you get into safemode. Hit F8 when right before boot to get to the splash.
To get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.

the one that said its not how you get into it. I know you press f8. But, when I had that problem I was completely unable to do that. The only way I was able to get into it was shutting down during the splash screen. and it gave me the options to get in it. As I said before I didn't know about the restore point thing when you are scanning for viruses. So I don't know if it was related. My pc is fine over a year later after I encountered a problem almost the same as that. So I got lucky and had no problem with my laptop hardware.

Here's a neat cheat to get to the NTFS C: drive to delete that nasty file of srosa. Boot from a Win98SE disk and use the old dos commands to delete the sroas bug. Then reboot the machine into XP.

Also, the "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" is usually a memory error. Sometimes memory that is OC'ed higher than it's rated for will bomb out with a higher speed frequency or voltage. You can either replace the memory, test the current memory, reset the memory timings, lower the memory votage or change the clock frequency to the memory.

I have also had luck when booting to the command line safe mode when I couldn't get normal safe mode to boot. It just starts the DOS shell, work your way around the old DOS way to your AntiVi program and kick start it from DOS.

You can also hand start explorer this way as well.

another thing if you did what I think you did. I won't say but, just try to go into your bios and set your computer date back to a day when it was working and if it loads you did what I did a while back lol

If it was me, I'd take the drive out and put it in another working computer as a slave and fix the problem that way. That way you can boot up in a working os and run your virusscan tool or do whatever you need to do to fix it. But if yo udon't have an extra comp sitting around, this doesn't work so well...just a thought
