First - you could download it - linuxtracker.org for torrent files, or the ubuntu homepage for a ftp/http download.
Second - check out PCLinuxOS also - That Linux distro just beat out Ubuntu for popularity because of its ease of use I guess. Over at
http://www.technudgelive.com/linux he uses it and loves it - I downloaded the cd and want to try out the live version.
If you have slow internet, I could burn you a disc and send it also. Would be a lot quicker than 4-10 weeks

I would like to find out more about these OS's before i ask anyone to go through the trouble of sending me a copy.
Can kubuntu be put on a blank audio CD so i could install it? im jst wondering, im not vbery good at burning stuff

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download (Gnome Desktop)
http://www.kubuntu.org/download.php (KDE Desktop)
http://www.xubuntu.org/get (Xfce Desktop - low use of resources)
Yes all of them can be burned on a CD, just r-cick the .iso file you download and open with Nero.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the xgl stuff is kinda like the Aero for Vista - it looks pretty, but isnt REALLY useful ( other than to look cool when your friends swing by ;) )
Mike
Have fun with Kubuntu!!!

Intel stuff have good support for Linux since they are opensource.
In fact my X3000 onboard vga outperforms some medium class videocards (not to mention Ati ones) in beryl. Note though that Beryl is still a beta and it has tons of problems! So i advise you when you read the ubuntu wiki on how to setup beryl you choose to make it a
desktop session (selectable on login) and not have beryl manager always autostart!
Moreover forget XGL. Go AIXGL (its already implemented, no need to install).
Dont try to run any 3D app, game when running beryl! I crash my ubuntu everytime cause i play a game TORCS everytime forgeting to switch to a non-beryl session hehe.
Also, compriz is preinstalled in feisty. Its simple comparing to beryl. To enable it go to System, there somewhere is "Desktop Effects" enable it in there.
Pretty strange the intel card didnt work in windows. Did you check intel's site for any drivers? you can find cases of hardware not working on windows and working in linux but usually this is very old hardware. Usually the opposite happens with modern hardware!
Anyway, have fun!
(Install ntfs-3g in linux and Linuxreader in windows to be able to have these two read each other's partitions)[/b]

I installed Ubuntu on my Vista 32 system because HP doesn't support my old HP ScanJet 6200C. I had struggled to get it working with a couple of other Linux distros with no luck, but had no problem with Ubuntu. Also was able to set up the dual boot with Vista from the Ubuntu GRUB. I don't use it much, but so far it is the friendliest Linux I have looked at.

yeah my only beef i had with it though was, it seemed linux didnt play well with my battery for my laptop. I would seem to drain the battery quicker. That, and it also didnt play nice with sleep or standby. Sometimes when i would resume after opening the lid it would be a blank screen and i would have to hard power the system off.
For now until they get some more bugs worked out, i will contiune to use linux for all my servers!! Now that does me justice!
BTW I have tried PCLINUXOS and i have to say it was probably the easiest linux os i have used. Ubuntu was not a bad choice. Let us know how it works out.

ubuntu is great to look at and very functional for me for school work.. BUT, COMPATABILITY.. Everyone went into this Mac phase a while back and thought it was amazing. Now its ubuntu.. Correct me if I'm wrong but, windows is MUCH easier to use maybe not faster but, hey windows 3.1 is VERY FAST.. its just outdated. I use my computer for games because on my 100" projector it looks amazing.h But, I do know windows has HUNDREDS of flaws. If you know of an easy way to get my nvidia 8600gt video cards to run on ubuntu and play all the games I do. Such as bioshock, oblivion, BF 2 and 2142 Resident evil and all those type games let me know how to do it. I tried NUMEROUS times to use ubuntu.. my desk top is connected to the internet with a usb network adapter.. Now try to use ubuntu with no internet there is nothing to it. there is a big issue with the 8600 on ubuntu..
