Missing DLLs

Hmmm.. In the last 3 days or so i have had programs/windows pop with warnings that i am missing .dlls now they have all been different programs and .dlls

One was to do with a game.. another with directx and i just got one that appears to be related to nvidia software..

So i was wondering.. anyone else with windows vista have anything like this happen to them? any idea whats causing it?

I have a feeling it could be related to the automatic updates but to be honest i don't see how they could end up removing .dll files.

Also i assume it is unlikely that I have a virus on my system as i have only had it for about a week (but i am running an avg scan as we speak)

There are only 2 things i can think of that might have compromised the system if it is in fact compromised .. one changing the security settings on the monitor configuration files/folders granting them extra permissions (was trying to change something following advice on a forum now worried it was a bogus thing) and two downloading a vista codex pack

Edit: Just finished virus scan nothing found

If your system isn't compromised, and your Windows installed isn't hosed in some way, I'd check the drive, might be failing.

FWIW, I completely hosed an install of Vista by installing a codec pack, wouldn't let me open half the stuff in the control panel anymore, didn't have enough patience to figure out exactly what went wrong, so I just re-installed the OS and didn't use the codec pack anymore.

the first thing I would do is back up your hard drive.
next would be to run a program like registry mechanic.
then defrag. Then reboot.
If you haven't checked your hard drive in disc management, then I would do that as well. Good luck. Make sure your drivers are up to date.

was that codec pack this thing
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia ... kage.shtml

if it was then i think that's probably what f*cked up my system

P.S. that link may be a virus so don't sownload it.. assuming it is the same thing as what zelig used at very least it f*cks up your system.

Yes, it was that one.

I use the CCCP-Project pack exclusively on all my computers, shouldn't have tried the other one when the CCCP-Project pack already works perfectly for me.

It's cool.....we normally don't mind a bit of bad language, as long as it's not aimed at someone, some place or religion, but once in a post is enough.
You have to remember there's no age requirement for the site and we do have some younger members!

You can post the warning in this OS forum, we might even make it a sticky for a while!
