Reinstalling Windows

Post by DMB2000uk »

So I have a legitimate copy of XP MCE, but no disk, only some 'recovery disks'.

If I wanted to get hold of a XP MCE disk would my serial key work with any OEM version disk?

Jep, I am preety sure it would work, but if not, you can always call microsoft technical support and just explain to them why you are reinstalling your windows, and then they should give you another serial, or give you extra installs for your windows.

It should work, i had a Windows XP home an my laptop but no disk, and i had to reformat and install through a OEM disk (borrowed from my friend), i used my serial but it wouldn't activate until i called MS support and explain them the situation, they gave me the confirmation key in less than 2 minutes
Good luck

I'm not sure we're answering DMB's question correctly. Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you asking if your Recovery disc will work with any MCE installation disc? I've always been under the impression that the Recovery disc is OEM specific and would not work with a separate or individual installation as it will install the original OEM drivers and such, however I would love to be proven wrong. Thoughts anyone?
Don't ask me, cause I know nothing! I'm lost in this world of technology and am barely holding my head above water. Thank the Good Lord for LR, otherwise I would have drowned years ago.

No, they had it right (i think).

I want to use a generic MCE disk with my (OEM?) MCE Key.
