Are there going to be any operating systems other then Vista that will support DX10??? (ie somebody makes a linux system that will use the thing). I really wanna get the best out of my 8800 but I don't wanna get vista (i hear terrible things about it...)
What does mac use? I'm use to windows and only windows.

Re: DX10 OS??
Its not in Linux yet or OS X. Vista is made out to be bad, but its not if you have the right configuration. It runs with a lot of crap, that can be easily turned off.
Re: DX10 OS??
I suppose I could give it a shot...after SP2 comes out lol
Too bad they just wont make DX10 for XP, but then Bill would lose all that money. Anyway, thanks for the help.

Kevin

I'm still holding off on Vista, at least until SP1 is released.stinsonk wrote:I suppose I could give it a shot...after SP2 comes out lol

I have discovered that if you do a lot of service work on other people's machines, Vista can be a major PIA.
Example being if you connect someone else's HDD via USB to your machine running Vista in order to recover files.
Vista is much more "ownership" aware.
It knows that the files you're monkeying with don't belong to it.
So far, it has worked, but as mentioned, it can take quite a bit of swearing to make it happen.
The best route I've found so far for this situation is to run XP on a dual boot setup and do the file recovery from XP.
XP doesn't give a crap who the files belong to. It just does what u tell it to.
I also attempted hacking the file "imageres.dll" in vista in order to change the logon screen background.
Vista DID NOT like this. The attempt was unsuccessful and wound up "breaking" the file.
Again, wound up booting into XP, then hacked the thing to hell and back. XP doesn't care. LOL
But the upside to all of this, (if there is one),
IMO, it will be considerably harder for the average user to screw things up as bad.
And when they do .... Vista logs an unbelievable amount of information making our job of finding the problem a bit easier. (Maybe)
