WHen you buy vista (upgrade) In the green package what version comes inside? I hear people say there is an "old buggy version" and a "new updated version"
If you have a computer with the ancient vista do you need to buy vista again in the store to get the upgraded version? I was under the impression that once you HAD vista you didnt need to buy it again, just update to the latest.

Updating is all you need to do.
They are talking about SP1 - the first Service Pack for vista. Even if you get a NON sp version, you can just update through MS update to SP1 for free.

thanks, I have a DELL here, NO RESTORE CD's. I was hoping to install windows vista upgrade on it and do a clean install, will that give me the option to format the HD and get vista on the DELL thereby negating need for the resto CDS?

You should see the option to format the drive prior to installation. Just be sure your BIOS is set so boot from CD/DVD drive is before HD.

Oh, you are saying boot from the Vista CD and install/restore from there? Will I have to download all the device drivers for the computer from Dell? probably.

Yes you will have to download them anyway since you want to install Vista. I would check the drivers, etc for downloads and burn a disk before wiping and installing Vista on the system.

Before you do anything download and run the Vista Upgrade Advisor from this link
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... fault.aspx
This will highlight any software and hardware that you currently have installed that may have issues with Vista.
The upgrade version of Vista will not do a "clean install" out of the box.
