BOOT MGR Missing!

Post by [email protected] »

I am trying to install Windows 7 OEM on my computer. I did something wrong because:

If I boot from the Windows 7 DVD drive with the HDD drive connected, I get the Boot MGR Missing.

If I boot from the Windows 7 DVD drive with the HDD disconnected, the computer will boot up, but none of the repair options from the DVD work.

The computer will simply not boot with the HDD installed, I even formatted it clean on another computer. Same message. Is the problem on the OEM Windows 7 DVD? or is there some information that cant be erased on the HDD that tells windows its not a new HDD, so the OEM wont work.

You need to set the computer to boot from the CD/DVD-ROM first. Then restart the system, the computer will run and it will say something to the effect press a button to begin Windows Setup.

Even when I set the BIOS to boot from the DVD I get the same result.

Then the DVD drive, drive cable, motherboard header, or Windows 7 DVD is messed up. The reason you're seeing that message is the system is skipping the boot from the DVD drive and is trying to boot the 1st hard drive. But since you formatted the drive there isn't anything on it, hence the BOOT MGR error message.

Try this, much easier if you board supports it.

Thanks really appreciate your help!

Silly me, the USB keyboard was disabled in the BIOS so it wasnt getting the Boot from CD command and kept going to the HDD .

So far repair/install all is well.

Windows 7 is a bit nicer than Vista.

Thanks again.

Yes it is. I have 2 or 3 copies of Vista sitting collecting dust. I'd rather run XP than Vista any day of the week. Glad you got it fixed.
