Hi all, just a quick question. I am doing a networking project at the moment, and I am using Linux as my OS. I have linux installed already but stupidly have forgotten my password, is there any way of changing it so i can actually login??
The version im using is Linux Mandrake 10.0
Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks all. :D

Have you forgotten the user password of Root password?
If it's the root password, I think you may need to reinstall?
If it's the user password, then login as root, open the mandrake control centre, and change the password.......
Do you have a linux boot cd?
You can try boot from knoppix etc. and mount the / partition, open the ETC folder, in there is a password list file, you can try edit it with kwirte, or vi if you like the cmmand line ;)
I'm not sure with mandrake (haven't used in a long time), but you might have a "repair" option if you boot from the mandrake cd.....
You can also try boot into "failsafe" (an option on the boot menu)
This gets you to run level 1 (command prompt)
This will log you in a ROOT, then type "init 1" - Then type 'passwd' to change the root password. Once you change the root password, type "init 5" or "startx" this will give you the standard login screen, then type your username as root and use the new password,
Then change the user password via the mandrake control centre...
I hope this helps.......I'm still a bit green when it comes to most of this!
Glad to see a fellow Irishman here!!!
